As a wind-packed storm swept through Eunice, fire destroyed a house at 3594 Highway 190 East on Thursday.
Eunice Fire Chief Michael Arnold said in an email, “Brennon LeJeune is the homeowner. No one was home at the time of the fire and the cause is undetermined. Three firefighters were treated at the scene for minor smoke inhalation.”
Firefighters from St. Landry Fire District 6 and Acadia Fire District 4 also responded to the fire reported at 8:13 a.m.
Seven fire trucks were at the scene, Arnold stated.
Tankers from Acadia/Evangeline, Basile, Mamou and St. Landry Fire District 3 also responded, he stated.
Richard Fire department sent a portable breathing air refill station, he stated.
Arnold stated the fire scene was cleared about 1:30 p.m., however, firefighters returned to the scene later in the day to handle some hotspots that had rekindled.
On early Friday morning firefighters were called back to the scene.
Arnold said some property was recovered and removed from the house and given to the owner’s family.
