Former Estherwood police chief faces drug, other charges

Former Estherwood police chief James Burnett, 69, has been arrested on drug and other charges after deputies with the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office served a search warrant at 509 Jefferson Stt. in Estherwood last week.
According to a news release from Sheriff K.P. Gibson, deputies located methamphetamines and a stolen weapon. The location of the property was also determined to be within the area of a school. 
Burnett was charged with distribution of crystal meth, possession of methamphetamines, possession of a controlled dangerous substance within a drug-free zone (school), and possession of stolen property. 
Burnett was booked into the Acadia Parish Jail with bond being set at $45,000.
