In a matter that has been turned over to authorities, one student at Iota High has been expelled for bringing a gun to school.
The student, a juvenile, brought a gun to school and left it in his locker to go practice shooting targets with someone after school, Superintendent John Bourque said.
The student said as much to other students and as students talked, the administration at the school was made aware of the situation. They searched his locker and located the pistol.
“Kids talk,” said Bourque. “He told a few students of his plans and they talked and someone told the administration (at the school).”
In accordance with state law, the student has been expelled from school for the remainder of the school year.
“No one panicked (in the situation),” said Bourque.
He applauded the efforts of the school to make sure no panic came from the incident and for handling it appropriately and swiftly.
The pistol (Bourque was unsure of its make and model) and the incident have been turned over to the Iota Police Department.
