A 28-year-old Opelousas man said he was arguing with his mother when she grabbed a knife out of his hands and cut him at the base of his fingers, St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said in a news release.
The man, Cody James Arceneaux, of the 900 block of South Main Street, Opelousas, told investigators that he grabbed the knife and stabbed his mother multiple times, the news release stated.
When deputies arrived at the residence in the 100 block of Ranch Road they found Arceneaux curled up on the floor holding his hands in a bloody towel, the news release stated.
His mother, Vickie Granger, 54, was dead on the kitchen floor.
Arceneaux has been charged with one count of second-degree murder.
