Railroad crossing patrol planned today

Beginning at 7:30 a.m. today, Union Pacific railroad crossings in Eunice will be under intense scrutiny, Police Chief Randy Fontenot said.
There will be an officer at each intersection and a locomotive will be pass back and forth through the city to trigger safety lights.
“If the lights are flashing do not enter and cross those tracks,” he said.
The patrol, which is a combined effort of Eunice Police, the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office and Union Pacific, will last about a half the day, he said.
Motorists shouldn’t relax after the safety effort today, Fontenot said the crossings will continue to be monitored.
