Stolen ATV recovered, one man arrested

St. Landry Parish Sheriff Bobby Guidroz said a street crime suppression team assisted deputies in nabbing an ATV thief.
On Aug. 28, three ATVs being driven without lights were pursued by deputies and the team on Bertrand Road north of Lawtell, he stated.
“Once deputies arrived, the three drivers of the ATV fled and a pursuit ensued.
“One driver, identified as Cameron Fontenot, attempted to turn the four-wheeler in an area where it got stuck. Deputies began to approach Fontenot who exited the ATV and attempted to flee the scene but was apprehended,” Guidroz stated.
Fontenot was was driving a green 2016 Honda ATV, which was confirmed stolen through the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, Guidroz stated.
The ATV, valued at $6,000, was returned to its owner.
Fontenot, 20, of the 100 block of Perry Lane, Opelousas, was charged with flight from an officer and possession of stolen things.
Guidroz stated more arrests are expected at the investigation continues.
