Suspect but no arrest in fatal hit and run

A 60-year-old Eunice man was the victim of a hit and run on West Maple Avenue at Jelks Street on Friday, according to Eunice Police Chief Randy Fontenot.
Fontenot identified the man killed in the incident as William “Billy” Heinen.
“Evidence at the scene indicates the victim was struck by and/or run over by a vehicle. No vehicles were at the scene when officers arrived. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene,” Fontenot said in a news release.
“We have identified a suspect,” he said. But Fontenot added an arrests has not been made and the investigation is continuing.
Police received a call at 11:17 p.m. about the male unresponsive on the road.
The scene was complicated when a vehicle driven by Hugh Soronen, 57, 400 block of College Street, Eunice, drove through the crime scene tape, Fontenot said.
After the vehicle came to a stop, police approached and realized the driver appeared to be under the influence, he said.
A field sobriety test was given and Soronen was arrested for operating a vehicle while intoxicated.
