A third arrest has been made in connection with an incident here Sunday in which a father and daughter allegedly beat the daughter’s estranged boyfriend.
According to police, the victim also faces charges in the incident.
Melvin Emile Dugar, 19, has been charged by Crowley Police with aggravated battery with a dangerous weapon, two counts of domestic abuse battery - first offense, and one count of simple criminal damage to property.
According to Police Chief Jimmy Broussard, police were called to the 500 block of East Oak Street for a reported fight at 4:25 p.m. Sunday.
Dugar reportedly told police that he and Jasmine Bourque, 18, had broken up Saturday night. He said he was walking with a female friend Sunday afternoon when Bourque saw them as she was driving her car.
Dugar said Bourque got out of her vehicle and he admitted to police that he grabbed her by her hair and put her back into the car before he and his female friend resumed walking.
Dugar claims Bourque drove toward them at a high rate of speed and hit him, knocking him down. Bourque then drove home.
Dugar reportedly told police he followed her to her residence where a physical altercation ensued. That’s when Bourque’s father, Cecil Bourque, 37, got involved and allegedly hit Dugar in the head numerous times with a hammer and yelled racial slurs.
Police said Dugar had injuries to his right ribs, right leg, face and head. He was given medical attention for those injuries, police said.
According to Jasmine Bourque’s statement to police, she was “infuriated” when she saw her 2-month-old child’s father with another woman.
Cecil Bourque told police that Dugar threw a brick at his car, but it hit Jasmine in the head.
Police acknowledged that Jasmine Bourque did suffer minor injuries.
The brick also hit the car, causing some damage, police said.
Jasmine Bourque was arrested and charged with one count of attempted manslaughter and one count of domestic abuse battery - first offense. No bond was set because a domestic violence hearing must be held.
Cecil Bourque was arrested and charged with a hate crime and attempted manslaughter. His posted $35,000 bond and was released.
Dugar remains in the parish jail in lieu of $21,000 bond.
After he was booked relative to the altercation, Dugar was also arrested on a warrant that had been issued for him in March. He was booked by the Acadia Parish Sheriff’s Office on two counts of indecent behavior with a juvenile and one count of attempted child pornography.
According to the warrant, Dugar contacted a 15-year-old girl and texted her a picture of his genitals, asking her to send him nude photos of herself.
His total bond on those charges is set at $95,000.
