Two runaways reported at AMI

There has been no change in the status of Sunday’s report that two juveniles had run away from AMI.
As mentioned in the original report, Acadia Parish Sheriff’s deputies are searching for two runaway juveniles, who are missing from the Acadiana Marine Institute, also known as AMI kids Acadiana, in Branch.
The juveniles are both white males and are said to be wearing white shirts and gray shorts.
The surname of one of the juveniles is Garnica, and the other, Portier. Both juveniles are said to have brown hair and brown eyes.

Acadiana Marine Institute is a school located in Branch. The school is all male with 36 students and includes grades 4th Grade - 12th Grade.
“This isn’t a lockdown facility or with bars and fences or anything like that,” said Acadia Parish Sheriff KP Gibson, who emphasized that the boys were not considered a threat. “These boys just left the school. They are from other parishes and may be trying to get closer to home.”
There was no information available as to where the two boys were from.
The school is described as being a facility where boys could “separated a troubled past from a bright future.”
Of the 5,000 boys they teach at their school’s nationwide every year, it is it is stated that 73 percent of them won’t re-offend within a year after their release and 309 of them are now employed as a result of the AMIkids Vocational and Job Placement Program.
