EVANGELINE DOWNS AMERICAN QUARTER HORSE SEASON BEGINS THURSDAY

THE SEASON WILL FEATURE 39 NIGHTS SCHEDULED THROUGH DECEMBER 19
OPELOUSAS – American Quarter Horse racing returns to Evangeline Downs on Thursday, October 1. The 39-day season will include 10 racing days that had been scheduled for the Fair Grounds in New Orleans. The highlight of these 10 days will be the $475,851 LQHBA Sale Futurity (RG1) for Louisiana-bred 2-year-olds, which will be run on Thursday, October 22, one of five stakes races scheduled for that night’s program. The 13 trials for the Futurity will take place on the Opening Night program of the Evangeline Downs season.

The $1,000,000 LQHBA Louisiana Million (RG1) for Louisiana-bred 2-year-olds will take place on the Closing Night of the Evangeline Downs season, Saturday, December 19. The $100,000-added LQHBA Breeders Derby (RG3) for Louisiana-bred 3-year-olds will also be part of that program, along with two other stakes races. Trials for the Million will be held on Friday, November 20 and trials for the Breeders Derby will be run on Saturday, November 21.

The $100,000-added Evangeline Downs Futurity (G3) for 2-year-olds will be run on Saturday, December 12, along with the $50,000-added Evangeline Downs Derby for 3-year-olds. The trials for the Futurity will be held on Friday, November 13 and the trials for the Derby will take place on Saturday, November 14.

Racing in the month of October at Evangeline Downs will be run on three nights a week on a Thursday through Saturday schedule. For the months of November and December, racing will be conducted four nights a week on a Wednesday through Saturday schedule with no live racing taking place during Thanksgiving week. Post time for the American Quarter Horse season at Evangeline Downs will be 5:35pm Central Time.
