Parish president declares state of emergency

A state of emergency was declared for St. Landry Parish before noon Wednesday as heavy rains returned to the parish following flooding Sunday.
Parish President Bill Fontenot noted the parish “... is presently faced with a pending emergency due to the imminent threat of flooding from very heavy rains ocurring this morning and are expected to continue throughout the day into Thursday.
“Rains today compounded with the heavy rains experienced on April 30th along with the ongoing flood warning for Bayou Des Cannes have created an emergency situation,” the declaration stated.
