11 Bobcats named to 5-3A team

Four of the six District 5-3A baseball teams earned playoff spots with Eunice High and Church Point both advancing to the regional rounds.
District champion Church Point opened the playoffs with a 10-0 win over No. 22 Union Parish.
The No. 11 Bears (19-9, 9-1) then fell to No. 6 Buckeye, 10-0, 3-2.
District runners-up Eunice grabbed a 15-1 mercy-rule win over No. 23 Marksville in the bi-district round.
The No. 10 Bobcats (21-14, 8-2) were pushed out of the playoffs by the eventual Class 3-A champions South Beauregard, 7-5, 6-3.
No. 25 Port Barre (11-16, 6-4) was knocked out in the first round in a 10-0 loss to No. 8 Lutcher.
No. 29 Pine Prairie (6-21, 5-5) lost 5-3 to No.4 North Vermilion to open the playoffs.
Northwest (7-15, 1-9) and Ville Platte (2-18, 1-9) did not earn playoff berths.
The Eunice Bobcats dominated the All-District team with 11 players selected.
Jayden Brasseaux was named first team pitcher, while Joshua Youngblood was selected first team catcher.
Also on the All-District first team were first baseman Zachary Guillory, second baseman Austin Phillips, short stop Cade Richard, outfielder Gunner Fontenot and ultility player Jonas Granger.
Other first team pitchers included Church Point’s Zach Ray and Matt Kidder along with Port Barre’s Dale White
Church Point’s Austin Manuel was selected as first team third baseman, while team mates Wesley Higginbotham, Ronnie Meche and Breelyn Jones were named first team utility players.
Pine Prairie had two players earn first team spots with outfielder Sylus Carson and utility player Jordan Ardoin.
Port Barre’s Christian Speyrer earned first team outfield honors.
Eunice had three players selected to the All-District second team including pitcher Ian George, outfielder Tyler Darbonne and utility player Christian Taylor.
Eunice’s Brandon Martel was named as a Honorable Mention selection.
Church Point had three second team selections including second baseman Drake Carreon along with ourfielders Shawn Arabie and Bailey Bergeron.
Pine Prairie’s Drake Lee joins Devin Case from Port Barre as second team pitchers.
Pine Prairie’s Kyler Carson was named second team catcher, while Joel Franks was named as second team third baseman.
The Panthers had four others earn second-team honors including outfielders JJ Sims and Nick Ortego along with utility players BJ Ardoin and Cole Thomas.
Port Barre short stop Jamie Aymond and outfiielder Kentrel Jackson also earned second team honors.
Matthew Duplechain from Ville Platte earned second team first baseman honors and teammate Brendan Docuet was a second team utility player.
