5-1A All-District list released

It was a sweep of the Class 1-A basketball championships as both North Central teams won state titles.
After a first round bye, the No. 1 Hurricanes cruised through the playoffs with wins over No. 16 Plain Dealing (84-47), No. 9 Delhi (98-69) and No. 4 Tensas (58-48) before claining the title with a 81-65 victory over No. 3 Lincoln Prepatory School.
North Central (27-7, 5-0) rolled through District 5-1A competition as Jacobi Theirry was named district coach of the year.
Derrick Tezeno from North Central and Opelousas Catholic’s Keon Coleman earned district Co-MVP honors.
St. Edmund’s Easten Coleman also earned first team honors along with Ronal Patin from Opelousas Catholic and North Central’s Nkembe Johnson.
St. Ed’s Kieran Davis was named to the first team All-Defensive team.
Joining Davis are North Central’s Reginald Stoner, Caleb Rubin from Opelousas Catholic, Sacred Heart of Ville Platte’s Tyler Perron, Nick Carriere from Catholic High of Pointe Coupee and Westminster Christian Academy’s Sean Spain.
St. Edmund senior Alex Dupre was named to the All-District second team along with OC’s Donovan Green and the WCA duo of Brennan Schwartz and Xavier Reddding.
Blue Jays’ Henry Brown and Luke Trahan were selected to the honorable mention list.
Also on the list were North Central’s Lionel Harrison and Jalen Wilson along with Chase Tate, Jacques Leger Bryce Deville from Sacred Heart
WCA’s Hunter Ray, Cade Lyons and Christian Reiszner also earned honorable mention along with OC’s Xavier Jackson and Kevin Wiltz.
David Brue, Andrew Trapaignier and Logan Brown from Catholic-PC complete the honorable mention list.
In Division IV, No. 14 St. Edmund (12-22, 3-2)lost in the opening round to district rival Opelousas Catholic, 83-49.
The No. 3 Vikings (23-8, 4-1) lost 78-75 in the quarterfinals to No. 6 Calvary Baptist.
No. 16 Westminster Christian Academy (18-16, 2-3) fell 80-33 in the opening round to top seed Cresent City.
Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (15-14, 1-4) and Sacred Heart of Ville Platte (6-23, 0-5) did not make the playoffs.
