5-1A All-District team released

The St. Edmund Lady Jays placed five players on the All-District 4-1A team as selected by the coaches.
Merryville claimed the district title and finished as the Class 1-A state runners-up after a 69-53 loss to No. 1 Delhi.
Vic Ortiz won district coach of the year honors, while Merryville senior guard Andrea Cournover (31.7 points per game) was named MVP.
Joining Cournover on the All-District first team was teammate forward Maddie Mahfouz (14.67 ppg) along with Elton guards Jamaica James (12.9 ppg) and Jameica James (12.6 ppg).
Grand Lake sophomore guard Macie Montie (15.9 ppg) was also named to the first team.
St. Edmund senior guard Gabby Fontenot earned second team honors as she averaged 12.7 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game.
Grand Lake’s Josie Ogea (14.1 ppg) and Kailey Murrell (10;9 ppg) were also named to the second team along with Merryville’s Jania Williams (9.7 ppg) and Kristian Anderson (10.1 ppg) from Oberlin.
St. Edmund’s Abby Miller was named to the third team along with Merryville’s Mekyah Hooper and Alyssa Duncan.
South Cameron’s Karlee Nunez and Marley Thibodeaux was also selected to the third team, along with Heidi Menier from Oberlin.
Elton’s Mayae Fuselier and Summer Gasar joined Basile’s Kathyrn Giles and Caitlyn Doucet on the third team.
St. Edmund’s Maggie Larriviere, Camille Leger and Kinsley Marcantel were selected as All-District Honorable Mention.
