All-Parish teams released

The Eunice High Bobcats and the Opelousas Catholic High Vikings dominated the 2017 All-St. Landry Parish Baseball Team as selected by the parish baseball coaches.
The Bobcats and the Vikings each claimed a top award, with Eunice High senior outfielder Gunner Fontenot named the Most Valuable Player and Vikings’ head coach Justin Boyd named as the Coach of the Year.
Boyd led the Vikings to a 28-9 record, advancing to the semifinal round of Division III.
Fontenot played in the LHSAA All-Star Game, where he had two hits in five plate appearances.
Four pitchers were named to the first team. They were Matt Collins and Conner Castille from Opelousas Catholic; Jayden Brasseaux of Eunice High, and Justin Devillier of Beau Chene High School.
Opelousas Catholic’s Sam Jarrell was selected as the first team catcher.
Infield selections included Opelouas Catholic’s Zach Mengarelli and Eunice High’s Austin Phillips, Cade Richard, and Zac Guillory.
Utility players named to the First Team included Josh Youngblood and Jonas Granger of Eunice High; along with Shelby Myers of Port Barre and Cain Ludeau of Opelousas Catholic.
Fontenot led the way on the First Team outfielder candidates.
He was joined by Christian Speyrer of Port Barre and Gage St. Cyr and Nick Mouret of Opelousas Catholic.
Pitcher named to the second team included Dale White of Port Barre, Hunter LaCroix of Opelousas High, and Hunter Leger of Northwest High. Beau Chene’s Morgan James was named as the second team catcher.
Second team infielders included T. J. Pitre of Opelousas High, Spencer Gardner of Opelousas Catholic, Jack Brown of St. Edmund High School, Holden Broussard of Westminster, and Jamie Aymond of Port Barre.
Second team utility players included Gage Wills of Northwest, Hunter Bellard and Dawson Cass of Port Barre, Dawson Richard of Opelousas Catholic, Brock Bieber and Will Turk of St. Edmund.
Second team outfielders included Tanny Wheeler of Opelousas High, Kentrell Jackson of Port Barre, and Braxton Roy of Westminster Christian Academy.
In the Coaches All-Parish softball team, St. Edmund’s Maggie Larriviere earned first team pitcher honors, while Eunice High’s Kaitlyn Joubert was named first utility player.
Other first team pitchers included Co-MVP Bryley Rodriguez from Beau Chene and Opelousas Catholic’s Anna Lafleur.
Beau Chene dominated the infield all-parish list including first baseman Alaina Head, shortstop Payge Hebert and third baseman Lacey Bonvillain.
OC’s catcher Lilly Phythian and second baseman Madison Nicholas were also named to the first team.
The first team oufield included Beau Chene’s Mia Dupuis, Khaki Phythian of Opelousas Catholic ands Port Barre’s Bailie Wyble.
Co-MVP Tori Collins from Opelousas Catholic joined Lady Viking teammate Mallory Little as first team utility players along with Port Bare’s Hailey Martinez and Leah Charles from Beau Chene.
Co-Coach Of The Year honors went to Beau Chene’s Thad Dickey and Jay Artall from Opelousas Catholic.
Second team pitching honors went to Eunice’s Amber Arvie, Kassie Salling of Westminster and Port Barre’s Anna Disotell.
Beau Chene’s Katie Bertrand was named second team catcher, while teammate Dalyn Singleton was selected as second baseman.
WCA’s Destiny Ledoux was selected as second team first baseman while St. Edmund teammate shortstop Gabby Fontenot and third baseman Kelli Richard earned second team all-parish honors.
The second team outfield consists of Opelousas High’s Chanterria Albert along with Elissa David of Opelousas Catholic and Port Barre’s Mackenzie Hebert.
Second team utility players were Cassie Thomas of Eunice High, Port Barre’s Emily Stelly, Ally Barron of Opelousas High along with OC’s Courtney Thomassee and Lauren Miller.
St. Edmund’s Kinsley Marcantel was selected Honorable Mention along with Tyriana Joseph and Ambreshia Gordwin from Opelousas High, Port Barre’s Rebekah Stelly, Gracie Lavergne from OC, WCA’s Alexis Jones and Sydnee Arnaud from Beau Chene.
