Basile looking for District 4-1A title

District 4-1A will remain an eight-team football district but without two familiar names.
Two-time district champions St. Edmund has moved to District 5-1A and South Cameron has dropped football for the forseable future.
Newcomers East Beauregard and Gueydan join Basile, Elton, Grand Lake, Hamilton Christian, Merryville and Oberlin for the next two seasons.
Basile went 8-2 in the regular season and finished 6-1 in district play.
The Bearcats opened the playoffs with a 56-8 win over Tensas and then rolled to a 63-40 win over Montgomery.
Basile’s season ended with a 44-14 loss to eventual state champion Kentwood.
The Bearcats open the 2019 football season at Lake Arthur on Sept. 6 before entertaining Mamou.
A trip to Sacred Heart of Ville Platte is followed by a home district opener against Hamilton Christian.
The Bearcats visit Grand Lake and Elton before hosting East Beauregard on Oct. 18.
Basile travels to Merryville before home games against Gueydan and Oberlin.
East Beauregard dropped down from District 5-2A after a 8-4 run in 2018.
Gueydan moved from District 7-1A after the Bears went 7-4 with a first round 40-28 win over Centerville before a 48-0 loss to Logansport.
Elton finished 3-8 in 2018 including a 44-6 loss to Homer in the opening round of the playoffs.
Grand Lake went 2-8 last season, while Hamilton Christian finished 1-9.
Merryville went 4-6 in the regular season but opened the playoffs with a 12-6 win over White Castle before a 34-8 defeat at Kentwood.
Oberlin finished 8-2 in the regular season with district losses to Basile and St. Edmund.
The Tigers opened the playoffs with a 60-0 win over Northwood Lena and a 23-22 thriller over Jonesboro - Hodge.
Oberlin’s season ended with a 14-6 loss to eventual Class 1-A runners-up Oak Grove.
