Bearcats, Bears cruise in wins

LAKE CHARLES – The Bearcats sealed second place in District 4-1A as Basile rolled to a 40-6 victory at Hamilton Christian Thursday night.
No. 6 Basile now waits for the Class 1-A bracket to be released to find out who they will face to open the playoffs.
Basile (8-2, 6-1) jumped out to an early 7-0 lead on a 64-yard run and Jose Palacios added the PAT.
The Bearcats took a 14-0 lead into the second quarter after Izzy Drehemsis scored on a 6-yard run.
Reed added touchdown runs of 45- and 35-yards to push Basile’s margin to 27-0 at intermission.
Jay Pitre added a 12-yard touchdown in the third quarter, while Jalmal Ceaser scored on a 4-yard run in the final period to give the Bearcats a 40-0 advantage.
The Warriors avoided the shut out as Reginald Jackson scored on an 80-yard kick return.
Basile finished with 371 yards of total offense, while limiting Hamilton Christian (1-9, 1-6) to 166 yards of total offense.
Reed led the Bearcats with 155 yards rushing on nine carries.
Isaiah Ceaser added 78 yards on four carries, while Dawson Ashford completed 1-of-3 passes for 45 yards.

CPHS 42, Port Barre 6
PORT BARRE – Church Point captured its seventh win of the season as the Bears cruised to a 42-6 win over Port Barre Thursday night.
No. 10 Church Point (7-3 overall, 4-3 in District 5-3A) now waits for today’s LHSAA Class 3-A brackets to see who the Bears will face in the opening round.
The Bears exploded for 24 points in the first quarter and didn’t slow down until the 42-0 lead in the fourth quarter.
Rodney Dupuis scored on a 42-yard run and Breelyn Jones connected with Dax Moore for the two-point conversion as Church Point led 7-0 with 9:20 left in the first period.
Jones scored on a 38-yard run and Gavin Richard scored the two-point conversion as the Bears pushed ahead, 14-0 with 2:21 remaining in the opening quarter.
Jones added a 42-yard run with 26 seconds left in the period and Tyrin McDade ran in the two-point conversion as the Church Point pushed ahead, 24-0.
Richard scored on a 17-yard run with 10:21 left in the second period as the Bears then took a 30-0 advantage into the intermission.
Dupuis scored on a 5-yard run with 9:50 left in the third period and then McDade added a 3-yard touchdown run a the 3:32 mark as the Bears stormed ahead, 42-0.
The Red Devils (2-8, 1-6) avoided the shutout when Dha’mond Thomas scored on a 60-yard run with 11:11 left in the game.
Church Point had 395 yards of total offense, while limiting Port Barre to 92 total yards on the night.
Jones finished with 105 yards on five carries, while Dupuis added 102 yards on six carries,
McDade had eight carries for 54 yards and Richard chipped in 49 yards on five carries.
Jones completed 2-of-5 passes for 37 yards.
Thomas led Port Barre with 80 yards on 11 carries.
