Bears rally past Bobcats

The District 5-3A battle between the Eunice Bobcats and the Church Point Bears saw both teams providing their fans with highlights on both offense and defense, with the Bears finally claiming the victory by a by a 22-20 margin in back-and-forth action in Friday night at Bobcat Field.
The Bears received the opening kickoff and moved the ball down the field from their own 20 to the Bobcat 48-yard line thanks to the running of Rodney Dupuis Tyrin McDade.
The Cats stopped the Bears, but the Bears’ defense stopped the Bobcat drive. The Bears offense managed to move the ball and managed to score on a pass from Breelyn Jones to Tyrin McDade for a 29-yard touchdown and a 6-0 lead.
The Bobcat offense replied in the early going of the second quarter when quarterback Simeon Ardoin teamed with Jordan Ledet on a 29-yard touchdown pass to give the Cats a 7-6 lead with 6:14 left in the second the second quarter after Austin Phillips kicked the PAT. The Bobcat defense forced a fumble and the Bobcat offense took advantage with a 20-yard touchdown pass from Ardoin to Lee with 4:43 left in the first half. Phillips made good on the PAT kick to give the Bobcats a 14-6 lead. The Cats’ defense managed to force another fumble with 4:20 left in the half, but the Bears managed to hold off the Bears to take the 14-6 lead into halftime. The Cats got off to a great start in the third quarter after Carlin Vigers intercepted a Jones pass. The Cats put together a drive after a 12-yard run by Lee, but the Cats couldn’t overcome two penalties, wasting the scoring the opportunity. The Bears took advantage of an opportunity early in the fourth quarter when Jones teamed with Ian Meche for an 8-yard touchdown. Dupuis added a score with a 13-yard run for touchdown. The Bears a 22-20 lead and the Bobcats were unable to make a comeback late in the game.
