In their first home game of the season, the Blue Jays took a 20-7 lead into the locker room.
St. Edmund then had to hold off a furious second half comeback by Natchitoches Central as the Blue Jays escaped with a 35-34 win on Senior Night.
After holding the Chiefs to negative yards on its first possession, the Blue Jays moved 61 yards in nine plays for the game’s first points.
Easten Coleman scored on a 1-yard pass from Henry Brown and Justin Landry’s PAT gave the Blue Jays a 7-0 lead with 5:57 left in the first quarter.
The St. Edmund defense held on fourth down, but the Jays missed a scoring opportunity with a fumble at the NC 30.
The Chiefs moved the ball 70 yards in just four plays, capped by a 6-yard run by Caylin Demars.
Sam Maggio’s kick tied the game at 7-7 with 50 seconds remaining in the first period.
The Blue Jays regained the lead on a 76-yard interception return by Luke Trahan.
Landry’s kick gave SEH a 14-7 advantage with 11:28 left in the second period.
The Chiefs fumbled the ball back to the Jays on the Natchitoches Central 30.
St. Edmund took three plays to score as Gus Brown hauled in a 13-yard pass from Henry Brown.
Landry’s PAT increased the Blue Jays’ lead to 21-7 with 9:07 left in the half.
NC moved the ball deep into St. Ed territory on an 11-play, 41 yard drive.
The Blue Jay defense held and stopped the Chiefs on fourth down at the SEH 13.
St. Edmund was then forced to punt with two seconds left in the half and the Jays held a two touchdown lead at the break.
The St. Edmund offense was forced to punt on its first possession of the second half and Natchitoches Central moved 42 yards in eight plays as Demars scored on a 1-yard run.
Maggio’s kick closed the gap to 21-14 with 5:24 left in the third period.
The Chiefs then snared an interception deep in Blue Jay territory and Demars scored again on a 1-yard run.
The PAT failed as St. Ed’s led 21-20 with 4:00 remaining in the quarter.
The Jays responded with a crucial six-play, 40 yard drive capped by a 24-yard scoring pass from Henry Brown to Coleman.
The PAT was blocked, but St. Edmund led 27-20 with 1:34 left in the quarter.
After stopping the Chiefs at the Blue Jay 38, it took just two plays for the St. Ed’s offense to score on a 68-yard pass from Gus Brown to Henry Brown.
The two-point conversion was scored by Coleman to push the Jays ahead, 35-20 with 9:03 remaining in the game.
Natchitoches Central then fought back into the game with a 65-yard drive, concluding with a 28-yard run by Demars.
The PAT failed as the Jays led 35-26 with 7:03 left in the fourth quarter.
Both teams lost fumbles on their next drives, but the Chiefs blocked a Blue Jay punt for a touchdown.
Jalen Wilson ran in the two-point conversion to close the margin to 35-34.
The Blue Jays recovered the kickoff at midfield to seal the win.
Natchitoches Central finished with 362 yards of total offense, including 305 yards rushing on 50 carries.
Demars had 146 yards on 17 carries.
The Jays finished with 270 yards of total offense as Henry Brown completed 6-of-8 passes for 165 yards.
Gus Brown had three catches for 108 yards and Coleman added three catches for 57 yards.
St. Edmund (2-1) will celebrate homecoming Friday against North Central.
