Blue Jays earn two big wins

St. Edmund grabbed a pair of impressive victories this week over Class 3-A baseball teams as the Blue Jays prepare for next week’s District 4-1A opener.
SEH 4, Port Barre 3
St. Edmund scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth inning as the Blue Jays rallied for a 4-3 home win over Port Barre.
After both teams threatened over three scoreless innings, Port Barre (4-6) pushed across two runs in the top of the fourth to seize the lead.
Ethan Hidalgo reached on an error and later scored on a ground out by Cody Fontenot.
Landon Kartchner walked and courtesy runner Gannon Arnaud scored on a line drive by Blayde Olivier for a 2-0 Red Devil advantage.
The Blue Jays closed the gap to 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth as Will Turk singled and scored on a hit to left field by Brock Bieber.
Port Barre added a run in the top of the sixth when Kartchner walked and courtesy runner Arnaud scored on a ground out by Tommy Trussell.
Trailing 3-1, the Blue Jays responded with three runs in the bottom of the inning to grab the lead and hold on for the win.
Bryce Vidrine and Remi Guillory drew bacj-to-back one-out walks to start the rally.
Courtesy runners Henry Brown and Garrett Dubois advanced when Jack Miller walked to load the bases.
Brown scored when Carter Lejeune earned a bases loaded walk and then Dubois crossed home plate on a single by Beiber to tie the game.
Jack Miller scored the go ahead run on a Port Barre infield error.
Dawson Ardoin recorded two strikeouts and walk and the Blue Jay defensse sealed the win on a force out to end the game.
Guillory pitched the first four inning and allowed two hits with two srikeouts and a walk.
Ardoin earned the win as he pitched the final three innings and allowed one earned run with four strikeouts and two walks.
Bieber went 3-for-4 with two RBI to lead the Blue Jay hitters.
St. Edmund (9-4) will travel to Opelousas Catholic for a three game series that begins Friday.
SEH 10, Iota 5
IOTA – The Blue Jays exploded for six runs in the top of the fifth to earn 10-5 win over Iota.
St. Edmund grabbed an early 1-0 lead in the first inning when Jack Miller walked to open the game and scored on a ground out by Brock Bieber.
After two scoreless innings, the Bulldogs grabbed a 4-1 lead with an offensive surge in the bottom of the third inning.
Trae Rambin walked and scored on a wild pitch to tie the game.
Mitchell Lege singled and Andrew Ashby was hit by a pitch and Hunter Wriborg singled to keep the rally going before courtesy runner Dawson Wallace scored on a sacrifice fly by Kameron Aucoin.
Gavin Leblanc doubled in Ashby and Wriborg to push the Bulldogs ahead, 4-1.
Iota (5-4) added a run in the bottom of the fourth when Ashby reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a hit by Nicholas Duplechain.
Trailing 5-1, the Blue Jays responded with a break-out fifth inning begun when Dawson Ardoin was hit by a pitch, Lance Miller walked and Remi Guillory singled to load the bases.
Will Turk drew a walk to plate Ardoin, while Jack Miller reached on an error to score Guillory.
Carter Lejeune was hit by a pitch to reload the bases, while Bieber reached on an error that allowed Turk’s run to tie the game.
Brad Miller walked to score Jack Miller as the Jays moved ahead, 6-5.
Ardoin’s sacrifice fly to centerfield allowed Lejuene’s run to complete the Blue Jay rally.
St. Edmund sealed the win with three more runs in the top of the seventh frame.
Ardoin walked and later scored, while Lance Miller reached on an error and crossed home plate on a ground out by Turk.
Guillory reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a double by Jack Miller as the Jays pushed ahead, 10-5.
Jack Miller and Bryce Vidrine combined for the win as the Blue Jay duo allowed four earned runs on six hits.
Miller struck out five and walked two over three innings, while Vidrine fanned three Bulldog batters.
Miller helped his own cause as he went 1-for-3 with a walk, three RBI and two runs scored.
Leblanc went 2-for-4 with two RBI and Duplechain finished 2-for-4 with a RBI for Iota.
