RESERVE – St. Edmund had its season end in the first round of the Division IV playoffs as Riverside Academy grabbed a 38-19 win over the Blue Jays.
The Rebels (7-2) took only two plays to score on the opening drive of the game as Gage Lavadain ran 46 yards for the touchdown.
The PAT failed, but Riverside Academy led 6-0 with 11:25 left in the first period.
After the Jays (5-3) were stopped on fourth down at the Rebel 37, Riverside Academy took one play to score as Elijah Davis raced 63 yards for the touchdown.
The two-point conversion run attempt failed, but Riverside Academy held a 12-0 advantage with 7:47 remaining in the first quarter.
After Riverside’s David Reynaud snared an interception, the Jays scored when Taylor Daire recovered a Rebel loose ball in the end zone.
Justin Landry’s kick closed the gap to 12-7 with 6:49 left in the first quarter.
St. Edmund stopped the Rebels on downs early in the second period and the Jays moved 44 yards in eight plays – capped by an 18-yard scoring strike from Henry Brown to Gus Brown.
The PAT was blocked, but the Jays led 13-12 with 6:57 remaining in the first half.
After forcing the Rebels to punt on the next drive, St. Edmund fumbled the ball back deep in Blue Jay territory.
Riverside went 30 yards in five plays, ending with a 14-yard touchdown pass from Lavadain to Nick Washington.
The two-point conversion failed, but the Rebels moved ahead 18-13 with 12 seconds left before intermission.
Riverside’s Tairyn Lockhart scored on a blocked punt with 5:58 left in the third period and the two-point conversion run by Davis pushed the Rebels ahead, 26-13.
The Blue Jay offense was stopped on downs on its next drive, but the St. Edmund defense forced a Riverside Academy punt.
St.Ed’s moved 65 yards in eight plays, capped with a six-yard touchdown by Kieran Davis.
The PAT was blocked, but the Jays closed the margin to 26-19 with three seconds left in the third frame.
Riverside responded with a seven-play, 50 yard drive finished with a 28-yard touchdown run by Lavadain.
The extra point kick failed, but the Rebels led 32-19 with 9:20 left in the game.
The Jays’ next drive ended with an interception and Riverside Academy took six plays to move 50 yards for its final points of the game as Davis scored on a 25-yard run.
The two-point conversion pass attempt failed, but the Rebels led 38-19 with 4:36 remaining.
St.Ed’s last drive ended in another interception at the Rebel 31 and Riverside Academy ran out the final 3:17 to seal the win.
Riverside Academy finished with 375 yards of total offense, including 348 yard rushing.
Lavadain had 155 yards on 26 carries, while Davis added 153 yards on 23 carries.
St. Edmund finished with 151 yards of total offense on 53 plays.
Henry Brown completed 8-of-21 passes for 104 yards with a touchdown and three interceptions
Gus Brown had four catches for 75 yards and a score.
Davis finished with 42 yards on 13 carries and a touchdown.
