Blue Jays fall to Vinton, 47-30

St. Edmund opened with a 7-0 run against the Lions, but Vinton finished with a 47-30 victory over the Blue Jays.
Kieran Davis scored on a put-back bucket, Henry Brown nailed a trey and Esston Coleman scored in the lane as St. Edmund jumped out to an early lead.
Vinton answered with a 5-0 run before Davis scored again on a baseline shot.
The Lions closed the gap to 9-8 before Brown hit a free throw in the closing minute of the first quarter.
After Vinton tied the game, Davis pushed in a lay-up for the Jays to retake the lead.
The game remained close as the Lions grabbed a 14-12 lead, but two free throws by Brown and a short jumper by Coleman pushed SEH ahead, 16-14.
But Vinton closed the quarter with a 6-0 run to take a 20-16 advantage into the locker room.
The Lions went on a 9-7 run in the third quarter to extend its lead.
Brown hit a free throw and Alex Dupre drained a trey as the Blue Jays tied the game, 20-20 early in the third period.
Four Vinton free throws gave the Lions a slim lead with 3:20 left in the period.
Coleman drilled a three pointer to help the Jays pull within one point, 24-23.
Vinton closed the third period with a 5-0 run including a trey by Drew Heinen as the Lions took a 29-23 lead into the final period.
Davis scored from the baseline for the Jays early in the fourth quarter, but the Lions followed with a 8-0 surge to push ahead, 37-25.
Davis hit two free throws and Coleman added another as the Jays battled to close the gap to 37-28 with 3:32 left in the game.
An 10-2 run by the Lions in the final three minutes sealed the 47-30 win.
Davis led St. Edmund with 10 points.
Coleman added eight, Brown finished with seven points and Dupre chipped in five points.
D. Bias led Vinton with 15 points, while J. Powell added 12 points and B. Ceaser contributed 10 points.
St. Edmund will face St. Louis 5 p.m. Friday in the Bell City tournament.
The Jays will take on Lacassine at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday to conclude the tournament.
