Blue Jays, Lady Jays suffer defeats

LOREAUVILLE – Turnovers and missed free throws were costly for St. Edmund as Loreauville earned a 47-34 win over the Blue Jays.
The Tigers (2-2) held a slim 11-10 advantage after the first quarter but started to pull away with a 13-8 second period run.
Nathan Butler led LHS with six points in the first period, while Karon Jean Louis pushed in four points in the second period.
St. Ed’s Kieran Davis opened with six points, while Easton Coleman added five points in the second frame.
Loreauville outscored the Blue Jays 13-10 in the third period, led by Jean Louis’ five points.

LHS held a 37-28 advantage heading into the fourth quarter and the Tigers sealed the win with a 10-6 run.
Jean Louis finished with 12 points to lead the Tigers, while Caleb Jacob chipped in 10 points.
Davis scored four points in the fourth quarter to finish with 14 points.
Coleman chipped in 10 points on the night.
St. Edmund (2-4) entertains Basile (0-4) on Monday.

PPHS 30, St. Ed’s 20
PINE PRAIRIE – The Lady Jays and Lady Panthers both had scoreless quarters against each other as Pine Prairie used a consistent second half to grab a 30-20 win over St. Edmund.
Pine Prairie (11-2) jumped out to a 12-4 first quarter avantage, aided by two treys from Brianna Wall.
Mary Beth Lafleur hit a trey and Kinsley Marcantel added free throw for the Lady Jays’ first quarter points.
St. Edmund held Pine Prairie scoreless in the second quarter as the Lady Jays went on a 13-0 run.
Lafleur scored five points and Anna Belle Fontenot chipped in four points, while Rebecca Benoit and Marcantel added two points each in the period.
With the strong second quarter, the Lady Jays took a 17-12 advantage into the intermission.
Pine Prairie regrouped at the break and went on a 9-3 run in the third period, aided by five points from Kameron Allen.
Tanzy Miller’s trey was the only Lady Jay points in the second half as the Lady Panthers sealed the win with a 9-0 surge in the fourth quarter.
Pine Prairie hit nine free throws in the final period, including two from Ali Soileau who finished with 11 points.
Lafleur led the Lady Jays with eight points.
St. Ed’s (4-5) will face Basile (4-7) at 6 p.m. Monday.
