Blue Jays soar past WCA

The Blue Jays used a dominating ground attack as St. Edmund stormed to a 47-14 Senior Night win Friday over Westminster Christian Academy.
The Blue Jays (6-3, 3-1) took the opening kickoff 56 yards in four plays, sparked by a 19-yard run by Kieran Davis and horse collar tackle flag on the play.
Peyton Marcantel then capped the drive with an 11-yard touchdown run.
Josh Landry’s kick gave the Jays a 7-0 lead with 10:33 left in the period.
Issac Richard recovered a Colby Lejeune’s fumble on the kickoff to give the ball back to the Jays at the WCA 23 -yard line.
Marcantel carried the ball three straight times including the 1-yard touchdown run. Landry’s PAT pushed the Jays ahead 14-0 with 9:07 remaining in the period.
The Crusaders (5-4, 1-3) then mounted the longest drive of the game by either team as WCA went 62 yards in 17 plays and ran 7:54 off the clock.
Bryant Moore scored on a three-yard run and Landon Deville’s PAT closed SEH’s lead to 14-7 with 1:06 left in the first quarter.
St. Edmund responded with a 10-play, 46-yard drive that went into the second period.
Marcantel and Davis shared carried on the derive before Davis scored on an eight-yard run.
Landry’s PAT increased the Jays’ lead to 21-7 with 8:12 left in the quarter.
After a WCA punt, the St. Edmund offense continued to move the ball om the ground 56 yards in seven plays capped off with a three-yard touchdown run by Marcantel.
The PAT was no good, but the Jays led 27-7 with 3:25 left in the half.
Westminster answered, sparked by a strong kickoff return by Landon Deville as the Crusaders began the drive at midfield.
The nine-play drive was finished with a three-yard scoring run by Cade Lyons with nine seconds left in the half.

The Jays’ defense forced a WCA punt to open the third period and the SEH offense then went back to work with a 58-yard drive that took just eight plays.
A strong run by Davis and a face mask penalty tacked on helped the Jays move the ball to the WCA 17.
Marcantel ran the ball four straight times including a one-yard touchdown plunge.
The two-point conversion pass failed, but the Jays led, 33-14 with 6:31 left in the third frame.
A special teams play helped the Jays put the game away when Hunter Brown raced 42 yards for a punt return touchdown.
Josh Landry’s PAT increased St. Ed’s lead to 40-14 with 9:57 left in the game.
WCA was forced to punt for the fifth time and the Jays then moved 82 yards in 10 plays for the game’s final touchdown.
Taylor Daire broke loose for a 58-yard touchdown run with 1:27 left in the game and Justin Landry’s PAT completed the 47-14 Blue Jay romp.
Marcantel led St. Edmund with 181 yards on 22 carries, while Davis added 98 yards on 19 carries.
WCA finished with 149 yard rushing, led by Moore’s 93 yards on 22 carries.
St. Edmund travels to Catholic High of Pointe Coupee Friday night in a battle for the District 5-1A title.
CHPC (7-2, 4-0) cruised past North Central 72-18 to stay undefeated in the district.
Westminster closes the regular season at Opelousas Catholic.
The Vikings (8-1, 3-1) earned a 21-6 win over Sacred Heart of Ville Platte.
