Their dreams to play college ball will come true for Eunice High senior baseball players Joshua Youngblood and Jayden Brasseaux.
Youngblood signed a national letter of intent to play for Nicholls State University, while Brasseaux heads to Baton Rouge Community College.
“Both are good athletes and they worked real hard to get where they are now,” Eunice High baseball coach Scott Phillips said. “It is great to see them get the opportunity to play college baseball.”
“I coached Josh since he was a young boy,” Phillips said. “I didn’t know if he would be a catcher for me and he ended up a good catcher. You can’t coach an arm like that.”
Youngblood is hitting .419 so far this season with 30 RBI, 10 doubles, four triples and a home run.
“As a catcher you are involved in every play,” Youngblood said. “You are in the center of the moment and in the middle of the excitement.”
Brasseaux was recruited by BRCC as a two-way player.
“Jayden could be an infielder, outfielder or pitcher,” Phillips said, “He can do it all, so that will be big that he can play third base, shortstop, pitch or whatever they need.”
Brasseaux is hitting .481 this season with 26 RBI and 13 doubles.
On the mound, he has a 5-2 record, 4.85 ERA with 34 strikeouts.
“It means the world to me,” Brasseaux said. “I worked so hard to get to this point and I am blessed.”
