It is a must–win week for the Bobcats as Eunice High entertains Port Barre for homecoming.
“If we are not focused we need to be,” EHS head coach Paul Trosclair said odf his team. “This is a big game for us.”
The Bobcats (1-4, 0-2) have lost four games in a row since the season-opening win over Opelousas High.
“We need to start a winning streak soon as we are running out of time,” Trosclair said of the mid-way point of the season.
With district losses to Crowley (39-0) and Church Point (28-17), the Bobcats need to get back on track to stay in the playoff hunt.
“We feel we still have a chance to have a strong finish,” the coach said. “But time is now for sure as we are in the sixth week of the season.”
The Red Devils (0-5, 0-2) have struggled under first-year head coach Craig Stephens.
Port Barre opened the season with losses to Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (52-0), Beau Chene (36-2), and Opelousas Catholic (26-6) before dropping district games to Mamou (15-14) and Pine Prairie (39-8).
“We have played a tough schedule,” Trosclair said. “Our oppponents so far are 17-5, so it has been pretty much a grind.”
Trosclair said the Red Devils started the season with a spread offense but after moving to their third quarterback, Port Barre has become more run-oriented.
“Last week was our best week running the football since the OHS game,” Trosclair said of 228 yards on the ground against the Bears. “We had three red zone trips that we didn’t convert that we had chances to score touchdowns.
“We are close and hopefully this week we will run the ball well,” the coach said. “We have to score when we have the chance.”
Dameon Frank finished with 70 yards on seven carries, Trevin Ceaser had 57 yards on 11 carries and Avery Lee added 44 yards on 14 carries against Church Point.
So far this season, Bobcat quarterback Jaden Brasseaux has completed 34-of-66 passes for 380 yards.
In other District 5-3A games, Church Point (3-1, 2-0) visits No. 10 Northwest (3-1, 2-0); Eunice (1-4, 0-2) entertains Port Barre (0-5, 0-2) and Pine Prairie (2-3, 1-1) travels to Mamou (1-4, 1-1).
