Bobcats crush Demons, 53-8

MAMOU – The Eunice High Bobcats evened their overall record to 4-4 Friday night with a 53-8 victory over the Mamou High Green Demons in District 5-3A action.
Coach Paul Trosclair’s Bobcats wasted no time in taking the lead as Dameon Frank intercepted a Landon Deshotels pass and returned it 40 yards for a touchdown to give the Cats a 7-0 lead, following a successful PAT kick by Austin Phillips.
The Cats would extend their lead to 14-0 later in the first quarter on an 11-yard run by Frank, which was set up by a Jaden Brasseaux to Jordan Ledet 15-yard pass.
But the Green Demons cut the Eunice lead to 14-8 with a Deshotels pass to Nakrein Jack, who raced 67 yards for a touchdown.
Thomas Atkins ran for the two-point conversion for the Demons.
The Bobcats answered back on their next possession, capping a short drive on a six-yard touchdown run by Bailey Richardson to increase their lead to 20-8.
With the Bobcat defense keeping the Demons at bay, the Cats scored another touchdown on a three-yard run by Deon Ardoin.
Phillips kicked the PAT for a 27-8 lead.
The touchdown was set up on a Brasseaux screen pass to Avery Lee which covered 36 yards.
The Cats continued to stifle the Mamou offense with a interception by Ja’Vondre Edwards, setting up a 9-yard touchdown run by Trevin Ceaser to increase the Eunice lead to 33-8.
A bad snap caused the PAT to fail.
The Bobcats added to their lead just prior to halftime on a five-yard touchdown run by Avery Lee. Phillips kicked the PAT for a 40-8 lead.
With the start of the third quarter, some of the younger Bobcats hit the field.
Bryson Poullard capped off a 91-yard drive with a 5-yard touchdown run and Harold Fontenot kicked the PAT to increase the Bobcat lead to 47-8 after a successful PAT kick by Phillips. The Cats would score one more time in the fourth quarter on a touchdown run by Simeon Ardoin for a 53-8 lead. Lee would intercept a pass with six minutes left to play, giving the Bobcat defense six interceptions for the game.
