Bobcats down Red Devils, 14-3

PORT BARRE – The Eunice High Bobcats claimed a 14-3 victory over the Port Barre Red Devils in District 3A baseball action Thursday at Red Devil Park.
The Red Devils (6-12, 2-3) took a 1-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning, taking advantage of a Bobcat error when Ethan Hidalgo singled to score Leighton Lacassin.
Eunice pitcher Luke Andrepont shut down the Red Devils over the next three innings, allowing the Bobcat bats to come alive in the third inning.
Dylan Darbonne doubled to open the inning and Jahiem Mitchell followed with a walk.
Deondre Courville laid down a bunt single to load the bases, setting up a six-run inning.
Austin Phillips doubled home two runs before Tyler Darbonne ripped a home run over the right field fence.
Andrepont helped his own cause with a double to score Seth Deshotel, who had walked.
The Bobcats extended their lead with two runs in the fifth inning.
Courville reached on an error and Grant Fontenot singled and later scored on a Phillips double to extend the Eunice lead to 8-1.
The Cats extended their lead with six runs in the sixth inning.
Port Barre managed to score single runs in the fifth and six innings on hits by Alec Martinez and Landon Kantess.
Andrepont earned the complete game win, as he allowed five runs on five hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
Phillips drove in five runs on four hits for the Bobcats.
Tyler Darbonne finished 2-for-5 with four RBI, while Fontenot went 2-for-4 with a walk and a RBI.
Andrepont helped his own cause with a 2-for-4 outing with a walk and a RBI.
Dylan Darbonne went 2-for-4 with a run scored.
Eunice (12-10, 5-0) will take on Pine Prairie (10-10, 4-1) on Tuesday before visiting the Panthers on Thursday as district play continues.
