The Bobcats are in the quarterfinals for the first time since 2008 as No 2 Eunice will entertain No. 26 Madison Prep 7 p.m. Friday.
“It is always fun to practice during the Thanksgiving holidays.” Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair said. “We even have a pep rally today after practice so that will be fun.”
Trosclair said he is pleased with the Bobcats senior leadership and how the younger players progressed.
“It has been a good year as we advanced to the quarterfinals,” the coach said. “I hope we get to play some more.”
The Chargers (6-6) are on a three-game winning streak, including playoff victories against higher-seeded teams No. 7 Jewel Sumner and No. 10 Caldwell.
At No. 26, Madison Prep is now the lowest-seeded team alive in the state playoff brackets.
The winner advances to the semifinals to play the Kaplan-Lake Charles Prep winner.
In the playoffs, the Chargers defense held Sumner to two scores in a 22-14 victory.
Last week they downed Caldwell 6-0, allowing only 95 yards of total offense with 29 yards rushing.
Roy Davis ran 50 yards for a touchdown on Madison Prep’s first snap, and the defense made it stand up.
Jeremier Winn intercepted a pass to snuff out Caldwell’s last chance with two minutes left.
Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair understands what a stingy defense can do as the Bobcats held on for 13-12 win at Wossman in the second round.
“I was thrilled about the determination that our team showed,” Trosclair said. “Our guys were not willing to give in when Wossman had the ball three different times inside the five yard line.
“We had three goal line stands and defense made the difference.”
Trosclair said the Chargers’ offense is talented and the defense doesn’t give up a lot of points.
The Bobcat coach said the game plan will stay the stay the same – run the ball, play good defense and do the best we can on special teams.
Deon Ardoin has gained 1,100 yards on 192 carries and scored 13 touchdowns to lead the Bobcats’ run attack.
Jeoul Hill has rushed for 846 yards on 86 carries with four touchdowns, while Avery Lee added 712 yards on 106 carries with 12 touchdowns.
Simeon Ardoin has been a dual threat as he rushed for 371 yards on 72 carries with six touchdowns and the Bobcat quarterback has completed 55-of-117 passes for 731 yards with 10 touchdowns and four interceptions.
Jordan Ledet is the Bobcats’ top receiver with 30 catches for 463 yards and four touchdowns.
