With four games left in the regular season, there is still a lot to be determined as the District 5-3A race continues.
After dropping a heartbreaker to Church Point (22-20), Eunice rebounded with a 30-0 victory over Port Barre.
“We played really well on defense,” Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair said. “We didn’t execute as well on offense, but that is typical after a game that was filled with so much emotion – you can look at Church Point and see what happened to them.”
Northwest rolled 44-28 to hand the Bears their first loss of the season last week.
The Bobcats (5-1, 2-1) entertain a surging Pine Prairie (3-3, 2-1) team this week.
The Panthers opened the season with losses to Tioga (34-6) and Ville Platte (28-13) before earning a 34-7 win over Beau Chene.
After falling to Church Point (46-0) to begin district play, Pine Prairie recovered with wins over Port Barre (27-0) and Mamou (43-13).
Panther senior running back J.J. Sims racked up five touchdowns and gained 192 yards on 23 carries against Mamou.
He also scored on a 65-yard punt return in the win.
“He is a very good back,” Trosclair said. “He had over 100 yards rushing against us as well as a punt return.
“We have to gang tackle,” the coach said. “We have to get more than one person to the ball.”
Eunice quarterback Siemon Ardoin suffered an imjury against Port Barre and Zach Suire may get the start this week.
“He did a super job going in,” Trosclair said of Suire. “He can run the offense and that is a good thing.”
In other district games this week: Church Point visits undefeated Iota, Crowley travels to Mamou while Northwest entertains Port Barre.
“We have five teams who are really solid,” Trosclair said of the district. “Any body can pull out a win, it seems like.
“The district battle could go down to the last week.”
