Bobcats fall in Northwest's Holiday tourney

PRAIRIE RONDE – Ville Platte exploded for 36 points in the third period to break open a close game as the Bulldogs rolled to a 80-61 win over the Eunice Bobcats in Northwest High’s Holiday tournament.
Ville Platte opened the game with a 14-13 first quarter lead, sparked by six points from Terrian Roy.
Treylon Cooper led the Bobcats with five points and Shaun Hudson added four points.
Eunice responded with a 19-10 run in the second period to push ahead, 32-24 at the break.
Simeon Ardoin led the Bobcats seven points, while Cooper chipped in six points.
The Bulldogs’ third period proved to be the difference in the game as Ville Platte pushed ahead, 58-43.
Jamar Byers scored nine points and Tyler Jones chipped in eight points in the period.
The Bobcats were led in the quarter with six points by Dedrick Vigers and four points from Cooper.
Trailing 58-43 heading in the final quarter, the Bobcats fought to keep the game close in the fourth quarter but couldn’t close the gap.
Cooper scored nine points in the period to finish with 23 points.
Byer led Ville Platte with 17 points in the win,, while Ernest Robert chipped in 16 points and Jones added 14 points.
Eunice (1-7) dropped to the loser’s bracket as the Bobcats were to face J.S. Clark (10-7) in the loser’s bracket of the tournament, as the Bulldogs fell to Lafayette Christian Academy, 64-38.
The consolation game is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday.
