The Bobcats and Green Demons are heading in opposite directions this season, but Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair said his team can’t look past Mamou if they want to stay in the District 5-3A hunt.
Eunice (6-1,3-1) will entertain Mamou (0-7, 0-4) on Friday.
“Dwight (Collins) will have his players ready to perform,” Trosclair said of the former Bobcat assistant coach. “They are going to play hard as that is Dwight’s mentality and that’s what he brings to the table.”
The Bobcats earned a 35-6 win over Pine Prairie to stay in second place in the the district behind the undefeated Iota Bulldogs.
“I was proud of our defense to keep their running back (Jerodd) Sims to under 40 yards,” Trosclair said. “He came into the game with 1,00 yards rushing – that was a good effort.”
Troslair said he felt the Bobcats also performed well on offense and special teams.
“Our running game was good, we made all our extra points and covered well on kicks,” the coach said. “I think we played better than the week before.”
The Green Demons opened the season with three shut out losses to Oberlin (22-0), Basile (36-0) and St. Edmund (27-0).
Mamou then fell to Port Barre (14-6) in the district opener and followed with a 37-0 defeat against Iota.
The last two weeks, the Green Demon offense has improved in losses to Pine Prairie (43-13) and Crowley (33-13).
“They are improving on offense and I think they played their best game last week against Crowley.
“They made some big plays and we will have to be ready and I know we will be.”
The Bobcat coach said this game is an opportunity for his EHS team to improve.
“We are going to try and get better as it is eighth game of the season,” Trosclair said. “The playoffs are right around the corner so we should be trying to build momentum and try to improve.
“We are not perfect so we should be striving for perfection.”
In other district games, Crowley visits Church Point tonight, while Iota travels to Port Barre and Northwest visits Pine Prairie.
