The Eunice Bobcats improved their record to 3-0 with a 15-5 run-rule victory over the Pineville High Rebels in baseball action Thursday at Bobcat Field.
The game was played as part of the DeRidder High Tournament, with the Rebels coming to Eunice High due to inclement weather in the DeRidder area.
Pineville got off to a good start when leadoff batter Cam Bates homered against Eunice starting pitcher Ian George to take the lead.
A fielding error set up a second run for the Rebels and a 2-0 lead before George retired the side.
The Bobcats were unable to score in the bottom of the first and the Rebels were held in check in the top of the second.
The Bobcats got on the scoreboard in the bottom of the second.
Tyler Darbonne drew a walk from Rebel starter Conner Morrow and advanced to second base on an error.
Two more errors allowed Darbonne to score, cutting the lead to 2-1.
The Rebels extended added to their lead in the top of the third inning after two errors and a hit batter opened the inning.
George was relieved on the mound by Luke Andrepont, who got the final three outs after giving up a run-scoring single to give the Rebels a 5-1 lead.
The Cats rallied back in the bottom of the third inning with one out.
After Josh Youngblood reached safely on an error, Darbonne singled and stole second base.
Jayden Brasseaux doubled to score both runners and he would later cross the plate as the Bobcats cut the lead to 5-4.
Andrepont shut down the Rebels in the fourth and the Cats added two runs in the bottom of the inning as George and Austin Phillips crossed the plate to give the Cats a 6-5 lead.
The Bobcats would put the game away with a nine-run fifth inning.
Darbonne drove in three runs with a triple and Grant Fontenot doubled home two more runs as the Pineville pitching staff issued five walks and hit one batter and their defense committed two errors to give the Cats nine runs.
Eunice 14, Jennings 10
Eunice High claimed its second victory of the baseball season with a 14-10 victory over the Jennings High Bulldogs Tuesday at Bobcat Field.
Bobcat starter Jayden Brasseaux retired the first two batters, but Bullldog shortstop Kade Myers tripled and scored on a single by pitcher Kamran Richard to give the Bulldogs a 1-0 lead.
Brasseaux retired the side with no further damage taking place.
Richard gave up a single to Luke Andrepont in the bottom of the first, but the Cats were unable to take advantage.
Jennings added a run in the top of the second for a 2-0 lead, but the Bobcats scored a run in the bottom of the inning when Brasseaux drew a walk and stole second base.
Richard retired the next two batters but ran into control problems later in the inning, issuing three walks to force in a run.
Brasseaux retired the side in order in the top of the third to keep the score at 2-1.
Richard started the bottom of the third with a strikeout before giving up a single to Tyler Darbonne.
Richard then walked Brasseaux and Grant Fontenot and the Bulldogs changed pitchers.
The Bobcats scored to tie the game after J.C. Lejeune reached on an error.
The Bobcats took control of the inning at that point, scoring seven runs thanks to a three-run triple by Josh Youngblood, a single by Brasseaux and two additional walks to take a 9-2 lead.
Brasseaux ran into problems in the top of the fourth as the Bulldogs scored four runs to cut the lead to 9-6 before reliever Grant Fontenot retired the side.
The Bobcats took advantage of the Bulldog control problems in the bottom of the fourth as Deontae Gallow and Ian George drew walks to open the inning and both advanced on a sacrifice bunt by Austin Phillips.
Andrepont drove in both runners with a double and Youngblood continued the inning when he was hit by a pitch and he eventually scored the fourth run of the inning, giving the Cats a 13-4 lead.
The Bulldogs were retired in order in the fifth inning by Fontenot and the Cats added a run in the bottom of the inning to increase their lead to 14-8 on a run-scoring double by Phillips, but the Bulldogs cut into the lead on a solo home run by Myers and they added another run on a bases loaded walk in the sixth.
Seth Deshotel came on in relief of Fontenot to get the last out of the sixth, but he ran into trouble in the top of the seventh as the Bulldogs cut the lead to 14-10 with two runs.
Freshman Braiden Rider came on in relief and recorded the final two outs of the game to give the Bobcats the victory.
