After missing two games, the Bobcats return to the field Friday as Eunice High takes on North Vermilion in a key District 4-A contest.
“I think we have some rust from the time off,” EHS head coach Andre Vige said. “But is also allowed some guys to heal up from injuries.”
North Vermilion is 3-2 overall, 0-1 in District 4-4A.
The Patriots opened the season with a 48-13 loss to Ascension Episcopal. but followed with wins over Iota (23-14) and Crowley (35-20).
North Vermilion then dropped games to Rayne (49-7) and Sulphur (42-8).
“I expect a tough ball game,” Vige said. “Their quarterback is an exceptional athlete who can both run and throw the ball – he presents a lot of problems for us.”
The Bobcats’ last game was a 27-20 double overtime win over Rayne to help EHS improve to 3-1 on the season.
Vige said he wants to see his offense progress this week as the Bobcats move closer to the playoffs.
“I like our offense, but we have struggled at times,” he said.
“Penalties have really hurt us and not scoring when we get inside the 10-yard line is an issue.
“We had three chances inside the 10 and came away without any points.
“If can correct those two things then I think we can be better on offense.”
Eunice opened the season with a school record 74-0 win over Ville Platte and then downed Breaux Bridge, 30-0.
The Bobcats were upset by Jennings (35-14) but regrouped for the District 4-4A win over Rayne.
With Washington-Marion and LaGrange forced to cancel their seasons after Hurricane Laura, the district was reduced to three teams.
“The guys are real entergetic after sitting down for two weeks,” Vige said. “They are eager to play.
“I think we are prepared but you never know how things will shake out.
“But we need to perform well and get our second district win.”
Vige said they should have a team to play next week to replace the game against LaGrange.
