Bobcats receive rings at awards ceremony

The 2018 Class 3-A state championship was still the headliner at Thursday’s Eunice High annual football award ceremony.
Bobcat head football coach Paul Trosclair thanked the parents and the Eunice community for their support throughout the championship season.
Eunice opened the season with a 6-0 shutout win over Opelousas Catholic in the Joe Nagata Memorial jamboree.
The Bobcats rolled to a 53-24 win over Opelousas High and then stunned No. 10 Jennings, 33-23.
Eunice celebrated homecoming with a 36-14 victory over the Rayne Wolves.
The Bobcats suffered their first loss of the season in 22-20 defeat to No. 3 Church Point.
Eunice responded with a four game win streak with victories over Port Barre (30-0). Pine Prairie (35-6), Mamou (49-12) and Northwest (37-14).
In a battle for the District 5-3A title, Iota clipped the Bobcats, 35-34.
Eunice’s run through the playoffs began with a 34-20 win over Brusly and the Bobcats then rallied for a 13-12 road win over Wossman to advance to the quarterfinals for the first time since 2008.
Eunice rolled to a 41-12 win over Madison Prep to earn a showdown against Kaplan.
The Bobcats shut out the Pirates to advance to the championship game for the first time since 1998.
Eunice then earned the 2018 state title with a 59-47 victory over Sterlington.
“When we came out of the tunnel in the Superdome, it was unbelievable,” he said of all the Bobcat faithful that rallied around the Bobcats.
Trosclair praised the commitment from his assistant coaches, the supports from the school adminstratros and he thanked the coaches’ wives for their patience through the long season.
Individual special achievement awards were presented to players who earned honors for their performance during the season including All-State, All-Acadiana, All-St. Landry Parish, All-District ans statistical leaders.
Eight major awards were also handed out during the ceremony.
Parker Jodon was recogized for earning Academic All-State with a 3.54 GPA.
The Scholastic Award was given Tyler Darbonne of his 4.0 GPA.
The Faize Mahfouz Memorial Award was presented to Brodi Walker and Simeon Ardoin.
The Leadership Award was given to Carlin Vigers.
The Coaches Award was presented to Jodon and Zach Joubert.
Tyler Darbonne and Jeoul Hill earned the Sportsmanship Award.
Avrey Lee was presented the Jerry Hoffpauir Memorial Award.
The Joe Nagata Memorial Award was given to Deon Ardoin and Isiah Darby.
After all the team, trainers and support staff was recognized, the long-awaited ring presentation occurred and then a highlight film of the season concluded the event.
