Bobcats roll in district finale

Eunice High completed play in District 5-3A with an 11-1 victory over the Port Barre Red Devils in baseball action at Bobcat Field on Tuesday.
Coach Scott Phillips’ Bobcats improved their overall record to 19-12 with the victory over the Red Devils.
The win over the Red Devils gave the Bobcats sole possession of second place in the district standings.
Eunice starting pitcher Jaydon Brasseaux earned his seventh mound victory of the season as he held Port Barre to only two hits and one run.
Brasseaux retired the Red Devils in order in the top of the first inning and his teammates scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning to give him some cushion.
Cade Richard opened the first inning when he was hit by a pitch. Austin Phillips followed with a bunt single to put runners at first and second.
Gunner Fontenot drove in Richard with a double for a 1-0 lead. Jonas Granger and Zac Guillory drew back-to-back walks to continue the inning. Phillips scored on Guillory’s walk and Christian Taylor drove home Fontenot with a sacrifice fly to give the Cats a 3-0 lead over Port Barre pitcher Dale White.
Port Barre cut into the Eunice lead by scoring their lone run of the game in the third inning.
Hunter Bellard reach safely on an error and scored on a double off the bat of Kendrell Jackson.
The Cats responded in the bottom of the third when Granger doubled, advanced to third on an error, and scored on Taylor’s sacrifice bunt.
The Bobcats added three more runs in the fourth inning. Richard doubled and Fontenot tripled in the inning. Granger drove in one run and later scored another on a wild pitch.
The Cats wrapped up the victory by scoring four runs in the bottom of the sixth inning. Granger opened the inning with a single and Trevor Sattler drew a walk. Brandon Martel’s single loaded the bases.
Kameron Givens drove home a run with a single and another runner scored when catcher Josh Youngblood drew a walk.
Richard’s sacrifice fly plated another run before the fourth run crossed the plate on a walk by Fontenot.
In his six innings of work, Brasseaux gave up just two hits and one run. He walked two and struck out six to improve his record to 7-3 for the season.

Eunice 3, Carencro 1
CARENCRO – The Bobcats improved their overall record to 18-12 with a 3-1 victory over the Carencro High Bears in baseball action on Saturday.
Pitching dominated the early going as Bears’ starter Nathan Lanthier and Bobcat starter Ian George did not allow a hit over the first two innings of the game.
The Bobcats finally got to Lantheir in the top of the third inning.
Josh Youngblood singled to open the inning and courtesy runner Grant Fontenot advanced to second base on a sacrifice bunt by Jaydon Brasseaux.
With two out, Austin Phillips singled to score Fontenot. Phillips later scored on a double by Jonas Granger to give the Cats a 2-0 lead.
The Bears answered in the bottom of the third inning against George. Tanner Miller singled and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt.
Dylan Romero doubled to score Miller and cut the Eunice lead to 2-1.
George would keep the Bears at bay over the next three innings, allowing just two baserunners, one on a walk and one by way of an error.
The Bobcats would give their pitcher another run to work with in the top of the seventh.
With two out, Phillips drew a walk and Gunner Fontenot followed with a triple to score Phillips to increase the Eunice lead to 3-1.
In the bottom of the seventh, George retired the first two batters on a groundout and an infield pop fly.
Drake Harmon singled and Romero followed with a single, but George got the final out on a fly ball to Fontenot to end the game.
George improved his season record to 3-2. He gave up four hits and one run.
He struck out five and walked two.
Lanthier also went seven innings, surrendering five hits and three runs.
He struck out two and walked two.
