Bobcats sweep district rival Bears

The Eunice High Lady Bobcats jumped out to a 15-11 lead after one quarter on their way to a 66-39 victory over the Church Point High Lady Bears in District 5-3A basketball action Friday nigth at the Bobcat gym.
Coach Wayne Fontenot’s Lady Bobcats extended their lead to 38-15 at the half thanks to a dominating 23-4 second quarter aginst the Lady Bears.
Sophomore Stacie White led the second quarter scoring for the Lady Cats with 14 points.
Freshman Shania Toussaint added six points in the same quarter.
Toussaint scored seven points in the first quarter for the Lady Cats.
Church Point rallied a bit in the third quarter, scoring 11 points.
But the Lady Bobcats managed to outscore them with a 13-point third quarter as Eunice began the fourth quarter with a 51-26 lead.
The Lady Bears would score 13 points in the fourth quarter, but the closest Church Point pulled within 56-38 with just over four minutes left in the game.
Talia Jones topped the Lady Bears in scoring with 19 points. Jones hit three 3-point field goals in the game.
Brandashia Andrew added nine points for the Lady Bears.
White led the scoring for the Lady Bobcats with 24 points.
White made nine field goals, including one from 3-point range. She also went 5 five of six from the free throw line.
Toussaint finished the game with 17 points. She had two field goals from beyond the 3-point line.
Leah Walker also hit the double figure mark for the Lady Cats with 12 points. Shania Malveaux chipped in with five, while Jesslyn Reed and McKay Ceasar added four apiece.
The Lady Cats, now 2-3 in district play, will travel to Port Barre for another district encounter on Tuesday.

Eunice 72, CHS 53
The Eunice High Bobcats claimed their first District 5-3A victory on Tuesday night with a 72-53. victory over the Church Point High Bears at the Bobcat gym.
Coach Chad Andrepont’s Bobcats claimed a 13-8 lead after one quarter, but the Bears kept the game close in the second quarter by outscoring the Bobcats 18-17. The Bobcats led 30-26 at the half.
Eunice would start to pull away in the third quarter as they went on a 12-4 run in the early going of the quarter to extend their lead to 42-30.
Malik Poullard led the way for the Bobcats in the third quarter, making three feild goals from beyond the three-point line for nine points to help the Bobcats take a 56-41 lead into the fourth quarter.
The Bobcats would put the game away by outscoring the Bears by a 16-12 margin over the final eight minutes of action. Jude Cormier led the fourth-quarter scoring with eight points, doing most of his work inside along with Brandon Ndubueze.
Peter Shepherd finished as the top scorer for Church Point with 18 points. Cody Wilson added 11 points for the Bears.
Poullard led the scoring for the Bobcats with 24 points, including six field goals from 3-point range. Cormier had 18 points and Ndubueze added 11. Carlin Viigers and Tim Jones finshed with six points apiece. James Williams had five and Georrein Dupre had two to complete the scoring.
The Bobcats, now 7-14 overall and 1-2 in district play, will hit the road on Tuesday to take on the Port Barre Red Devils in another 5-3A encounter.
