Bobcats sweep Green Demons

The Eunice High Bobcats completed a two-game series sweep against the Mamou High Green Demons in District 5-3A baseball action at Bobcat Field on Tuesday. The Bobcats had taken a 17-4 victory in the first meeting at Mamou last week.
The Green Demons put together a more competitive game on Tuesday, taking an early 3-0 lead in the top of the second inning against Eunice starting pitcher Luke Andrepont. Coach Scott Phillips relieved Andrepont with Jayden Brasseaux, who retired the side to limit the damage.
Mamou’s Tanner Atchison shutout the Bobcats over the first three innings, but ran into difficulty after retiring the first batter in the fourth. The Bobcats scored five runs to take the lead after Tyler Darbonne singled and moved into scoring position on a single by Brasseaux.
Grant Fontnot doubled home both runners and he later scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of John Lejeune. Ian George continued the inning with a walk before Andrepont and Austin Phillips had singles to finish the scoring with a 5-3 lead.
Brassseaux shut down the Demon offense from the third inning through the sixth inning. The Bobcat offense added to their lead in the bottom of the sixth inning.
A single by Lejeune opened the ed the inning, with George’s bunt single highlighting the inning. Andrepont drove in one run before Phillips was hit by a pitch.
Phillips scored on a single by Brasseaux to give the Cats an 8-3 lead.
The Green Demons scored a run in the top of the seventh on a run-scoring single by Zach Morein before Brasseaux retired the side to end the game.
In Mamou, the Bobcats banged out 17 runs on 17 hits to take a 17-4 victory in the first game of the series.
The Bobcats scored five runs in the top of the first inning before adding two runs in the second inning. Josh Youngblood had two doubles and Tyler Darbonne hit a home run to lead the early Bobcat attack.
Luke Andrepont, Austin Phillips, Youngblood, Darbonne and Brasseaux finished the game with two hits for the Cats.
Grant Fontenot claimed the mound win in the five-inning run-rule contest. Darbonne relieved Fontenot in the bottom of the third, striking out five in his two innings of work.
Eunice travels to St. Edmund for a 6 p.m. non-district game Friday before visting District 5-3A rival Iota Monday.
