Bobcats win district track title

IOTA – The Eunice Bobcats edged rival Northwest for the 2019 District 5-3A track championship.
The Bobcats scored 164 points to win its first district title since 2016, followed by Northwest (158), Crowley (108), Iota (56), Port Barre (35), Church Point (32), Mamou (31) and Pine Prairie (1).
Eunice’s Javondre Edwards won both 110-meter hurdles (14.62) and the 300-meter hurdles (41.83).
John Mayo won the 800 meters with a time of 2:10.04 just ahead of teammate Travis Thomas (2:10.05).
Mayo also finished third in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:12.64.
Corneilous Lewis won the high jump with a leap of 15-10.
Simeon Ardoin, Treylon Cooper, Jordan Ledet and Devin Richardson combined to won the 4x100 meter relay with a time of 43.94.
Cooper, Edwards, Jeoul Hill and Ledet finished third in the 4x200-meter relay with a time of 1:33.05.
Michael Gaspard, Edward Hill, Mayo and Travis Thomas finished third in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 9:37.34.
Jordan Ledet finished second in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.12.
Hill finished second in the long jump with a leap of 20-1.
Avery Lee won the javelin competition with a throw of 165-9.
Lee finished second in the discus with a toss of 127-9 1/2.
Cooper finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 39-8.
Higginbotham finished third in the pole vault with a height of 10-0.
Crowley won the girls competition with 129 points to edge the Eunice Lady Cats’ 119 points.
Iota finished third with 99 points, followed by Northwest (78), Church Point (65), Pine Prairie (35), Port Barre (29) and Mamou (16).
Eunice’s Katherine Rougeau won the javelin competition with a throw of 107-5, while teammate Stacie White finished second (95-10).
Kimberly Boullard finished second in the discus with a toss of 81-2 1/2 and teammate Andrayia White finished third (75-11).
Taylor Lewis won the shot put with a throw of 31-1 as teammate J’lisa Thibeaux finished third (30-1 1/2).
Leah Walker won both the 100 meters (12.50) and the 200 meters (236.10).
A’mya Johnwell, Walker, Shanyia Toussaint and Zakayla Citizen won the 4x100-meter relay with a time of 50.55.
Johnwell, Jesslyn Reed, Walker and Toussaint finished second in the 4x200 relay with 1:48.52.
Reed, Madison Freeman, Toussaint and Citizen finished third in the 4x800 relay with a time of 4:27.67.
Akashaa Hall, Amaya Hudson, Amaya Rougeau and Andajihi Savoy finished third in the 4x800-meter relay with a time of 12:44.85.
Madison Freeman finished third in the 300-meter hurdles with a time of 52.93.
The Regional meet will be held on April 24 in Abbeville.

St. Ed’s sends four to regionals
LAKE CHARLES – The Oberlin Tigers and the Merryville Lady Panthers dominated the District 4-1A track championships.
Oberlin scored 173 points to win the boys title, followed by Hamilton Christian (113), Grand Lake (82), Merryville (77), Basile (64), St. Edmund (30), Elton (14) and South Cameron (2).
St. Edmund’s Gus Brown won the 3,200 meters with a time of 12:06.41.
Brown finished second in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:24.05.
Alex Fontenot finished third in the triple jump with a leap of 38-4.
Merryville won the girls title with 142 points, followed by Oberlin (105), South Cameron (90), Elton (72), Grand Lake (53), Hamilton Christian (39), Basile (29) and St. Edmund (23).
Lady Jay Mary Beth Lafleur won the javelin competition with a toss of 111-11
Katherine Sittig finished third in 300-meter hurdles with a time of 1:00.06.
Sittig also finished third in the high jump with a leap of 4-7.
