Bulldogs run past Abbeville, 10-0

IOTA – Bulldog pitcher Tristan Miller threw a complete game no-hitter as Iota defeated Abbeville 10-0 Monday in the opening round of the Class 3-A baseball playoffs.
No. 3 Iota jumped out to a 4-0 first inning lead, begun when Will Doughty doubled and scored on a sacrifice fly by Tristan Miller.
Hunter Wriborg reached on an error and scored on a hit by Deven Mouton as the Dogs moved ahead, 2-0.
Mouton scored on a wild pitch, while Andrew Ashby walked and scored on a hit by Mitchell Lege.
The Bulldogs added two more runs in the second inning as Dakota Breaux and Trae Rambin both singled and scored on a hit to centerfield by Doughty.
No. 30 Abbeville (12-19) threatened in the top of the third inning when Garrett Hebert walked and Jakarri Grogen reached on an fielder’s choice but was left stranded at second.
Iota added two more runs in the bottom of the inning, begun when Kaneron Aucoin singled and scored when Breaux reached on an error.
Breaux scored on a ground out by Doughty as the Bulldogs moved ahead, 8-0.
Mouton singled in the fourth and scored on a sacrifice fly by Lege.
Iota completed the mercy-rule win with the run in the fifth inning as Doughty singled and scored on a hit by Mouton.
Miller struck out five batters with one walk over five innings in the mercy-rule victory.
Kevin Linton suffered the loss for the Wildcats as he allowed six earned runs on 12 hits with three strikeouts and three walks.
Mouton went 3-for-4 with three RBI and two runs scored, while Doughty finished 3-for-4 with two RBI and two runs scored to help lead the Iota offense.
Iota (28-3) advances to face the Loranger/Union Parish winner in the best-of-three regional round this weekend.
