District 5-1A team selected

After a sixth-place finish in district, the St. Edmund Blue Jays had three players selected to the 2017 All-District 5-1A team.
St. Edmund senior Austin Gradney was named to the All-Defensive team, while Alex Dupre and Carter Andrus were placed on the Honorable Mention list.
First Team selections included three North Central players: Reginald Stoner, Derrick Tezeno and MVP Nikembe Johnson.
Catholic High of Pointe Couppe’s Andrew Lacour and Damian Johnson from False River Academy were also named to the first team.
Second team selections included CHPC’s Jared Lee, Vondrick Jimmerson from North Central, RaShawn Murphy from Basile along with Westminster Christian Academy’s Ken Jones and Corey Pellerin.
Joining Gradney on the All-Defensive team are Jimmerson, Damian Johnson, Basile’s Andre Reed, Nathan Carriere from CHPC and WCA’s D.T. Metoyer.
The Honorable Mention list includes the three Blue Jays along with Basile’s Reed.
Also on the list is Robert Haggar from North Central and False River’s Devin Christophe and Grayson Burns along with WCA’s Brayton Henry and Princeton Malbrue.
CHPC’s Carriere, Logan Brown, Jude Ringo and Hunter Fuselier complete the list.
North Central (25-10, 10-0) won the district title and advanced to the Class 1-A quarterfinals.
Westminster (10-16, 6-4) finished second in the district and the Crusaders fell 57-40 to Covenant Christian in the regional round of the Division IV playoffs.
Catholic High of Pointe Coupee (13-15, 5-5) and False River Academy (9-15, 5-5) finished tied for third at 5-5.
CHPC opened the playoffs with a 65-57 win over Cedar Creek before falling to Lafayette Christian, 123-31.
False River lost 75-58 to Ascension Catholic in the first round.
Basile (12-20, 4-6) lost 66-43 to Arcadia in the first round of the Class 1-A playoffs.
St. Edmund (2-25, 0-10) lost to St. John, 70-34, in the first round of the Divison IV playoffs.
