East Beauregard sweeps Blue Jays

East Beauregard grabbed a 58-26, 74-37 non-district sweep over St. Edmund Tuesday night at the Blue Jay gym.
The Lady Trojans (4-6) opened the game witha 4-0 run including a three pointer by Karlei Thompson.
St. Edmund (2-5) responded with five straight points, sparked by a trey from Mary Beth Lafleur for the only Lady Jay lead of the game.
East Beauregard answered with a 10-0 run including treys from Maili Bartz and Karly Bullock.
Gabby Fontenot scored on a put-back bucket for the Lady Jays with 50 seconds left in the period.
Bartz hit a jumper in the closing seconds to push the Lady Trojans ahead 16-7 as the game moved to the second period.
Thompson scored six points early in the second frame, while Fontenot answered with a trey for the Lady Jays.
Jill Simpson later added a jumper to help St. Ed’s close the gap to 22-12 midway through the period.
East Beauregard closed the half with a 5-0 run to take a 28-12 advantage into the locker room.
The Lady Trojans continued their domination with a 17-6 third quarter run.
Trailing 35-12 midway through the period, the Lady Jays scored on two buckets by Fontenot.
East Beauregard forged ahead with an 8-0 run before Lady Jay Abby Miller hit a free throw with 1:07 left to close the gap to 45-18.
Lafleur hit a jumper early in the fourth quarter, but the Lady Trojans answered with a 7-0 run including a trey by Thompson.
Savannah DeVillier and Fontenot pushed in back-to-back buckets as the Lady Jays fought to close the margin to 52-24.
Thompson hit another trey at the 3:11 mark to finish with 19 points.
Maggie Larrivierre pushed in a late bucket to make the final, 58-26.
Fontenot led the Lady Jays with 12 points.
After participating in the Basile tournament this week, the Lady Jays will entertain Kaplan on Dec. 20.
In the boys game, East Beauregard (4-4) exploded for a 24-4 first quarter run as the Trojans cruised to a 74-37 win.
After a quick start by East Beauregard, St. Edmund (0-3) closed the gap to 5-2 on two free throws by Easten Coleman.
The Trojans then went on a 19-0 run, sparked by three-pointers from Carson Caraway, Devin Perkins and Noah Gill.
Blue Jay Wesley Driggs hit a jumper at the buzzer to close the gap to 20 points as the game moved to the second period.
The two teams battled early in the frame as Alex Dupre hit four free throws and Tyler Fonville scored in the lane for the Jays.
Coleman later added a free throw to close the gap to 35-11.
The Trojans then exploded for a 17-0 run, aided by treys from Perkins and four points by J.T. Budnik.
Henry Brown nailed a shot the buzzer as the Jays closed the gap to 52-14 at the break.
St. Edmund regrouped to battle to a 10-10 tie in the third quarter, aided by six points from Dupre along with buckets by Brown and Coleman.
The second half remained close as the Trokjans outscored the Jays 13-12 in the final period.
Luke Trahan and Fonville scored early in the frame for the Jays, but a trey from Hunter Sharp pushed the Trojans up 67-28.
St. Edmund responded with a 9-2 run, aided by buckets from Coleman and Dupre along with five Blue Jay free throws.
East Beauregard’s Luke Draper drove the lane and Sharp hit a last second trey to seal the 74-37 win.
Dupre led the Jays with 14 points.
Three Trojans scored in double figures, led by Perkins (14), Carson Caraway (13) and Budnik (10).
After participating in the Basile tournament this week, the Blue Jays will entertain Westminster Christian Academy on Dec.18.
