Elton earns sweep over SEH

The Lady Indians moved one step closer to the District 4-1A title as Elton rolled to a 70-27 win Thursday over the St. Edmund Lady Jays.
The Indians sealed the double header sweep with a 64-38 victory over the Blue Jays.
The Lady Indians went on an 18-0 run to break open a close game as Elton (22-3, 10-0) took a 23-4 advantage into the second period.
AnnaBelle Fontenot and Jill Simpson scored buckets for the Lady Jays in the game’s first three minutes, but St. Edmund (9-14, 3-6) didn’t score again in the quarter.
Mary Beth Lafleur opened the second period with a bucket for the Lady Jays and Fontneot added four points in the lane as St. Ed’s closed the gap to 23-10.
Summer Ceaser and Maycie Fuselier increased the Lady Indians lead, but Kinsley Marcantel and Greta Miller answered with drives in the lane for the Lady Jays.
Elton finished the second period with an 11-0 run as the Lady Indians took a 40-14 lead into intermission.
The Lady Indians pushed ahead with a 6-0 run before Marcantel scored for the Lady Jays.
Elton continued its offensive barrage with a 9-0 surge, capped with a three-pointer by Jasmine Journet.
Lafleur hit two free throws and Marcantel added six points including a trey and a buzzer beater as the Lady Jays closed the gap to 56-24 heading into the final quarter.
Jameica James drilled a trey to begin the fourth period and Victoria Woods added three points as Elton increased its lead.
A free throw and a drive in the lane from Lafleur pulled the Lady Jays closer, 62-27 with 5:00 left in the game.
Elton finished the contest with an 8-0 run including a last-second bucket by Mariah Lemoine to seal the 70-27 win.
Marcantel led St Edmund with 10 points, followed by Lafleur (7) and Fontenot (6).
Elton’s Ceaser pushed in 16 points to lead the Lady Indians, while Fuselier and Jamaica both added 12 points.
St. Edmund take on Grand Lake Thursday for Senior Night.

The Blue Jays opened the game with a 6-2, but Elton responded with a 18-6 first quarter surge as the Indians rolled to a 64-38 win.
Easton Coleman scored twice and Tyler Fonville added a bucket early for the Blue Jays (2-16, 0-7).
Elton then went on a 13-0 run to finished the period, including two treys from Simeon Bellow.
St. Edmund opened the second quarter with another 6-2 run, aided by two points each from Coleman, Fonville and Henry Brown.
Four points from the Indians was answered by a baseline jumper by Fonville to close Elton’s lead to 24-14.
A late trey from Bellow and a lane shot by Kris Guillory gave the Indians a 29-14 halftime advantage.
The combination Guillory and Bellow continued to spark the Elton offense before a drive in the lane by Brown and a trey from Luke Trahan helped the Jays close the margin to 34-19.
After Elton went on a 6-0 run, Brown then pushed in back-to-back bucket for St. Ed’s.
Elton’s Robinson drilled a trey, but Alex Dupre and Brown both hit two free throws to close the gap to 45-27 as the game moved to the final quarter.
The Blue Jays kept battling with a drive in the lane by Coleman and a finger roll bucket by Brown to close the margin to 50-31 with 6:40 left in the game.
Elton answered with another 6-0 run before Brown scored twice in the lane and Fonville hit a free throw for the Jays.
A pair of treys and an underneath bucket push the Indians ahead, 64-36.
Brown hit two free throws in the final minute to lead the Jays with 18 points.
Coleman chipped in eight points and Fonville added seven points for St. Ed’s.
Bellow led Elton with 20 points including five three-pointers.
