Elton sweeps Blue Jays

The Elton Indians left St. Edmund with a key district sweep over the Blue Jays.
The Lady Indians (11-5, 2-1) handed the Lady Jays (5-9. 2-1) its first District 4-1A loss as Elton earned a 66-46 win over St. Ed’s.
The Lady Jays jumped out to a 10-5 first quarter lead, sparked by a pair of treys by Gabby Fontenot alsong with buckets by Abby Miller and Savannah DeViller.
Elton answered with four points from Jameica James to close the gap to 10-9 with 2:40 left in the quarter.
Maggie Larriviere hit a jumper and Fontenot drilled another three-pointer to push the Lady Jays up, 15-9.
After Jamaica James hit a trey for Elton, Kinsley Marcantel scored on a put-back bucket to give the Lady Jays a 17-12 advantage heading into the second period.
Elton took control of the game with a 21-8 second quarter surge, sparked by a 9-0 run.
Marcantel scored in the lane, but the Lady Indians responded with four more points to push ahead, 25-19.
Miller and Larriviere added buckets for the Lady Jays, but Elton closed the half with an 8-2 run including a three-pointer at the buzzer by Maycie Fuselier.
Elton increased its lead to 35-25 early in the third period before Marcantel hit a trey for the Lady Jays.
The Lady Indians then went on a 8-0 run, aided by five points from Jamaica James.
St. Edmund answered with with a 6-2 surge, sparked by Mary Beth Lafleur’s three-pointer on an inbounds pass.
Elton closed the third period with a drive in the lane by Abbie Guillory as the Lady Indians pushed ahead, 47-34.
Elton sealed the win with a 15-2 run in the fourth quarter, slowed by a jumper by DeVillier.
St. Edmund rallied for a 6-0 run late in the contest including a shot by Fontenot, three points from DeVillier and a put-back by Marcantel.
Nya Francis scored the game’s last points to push the Lady Indians up, 66-46.
Fontentot led St. Edmund with 16 points, while Marcantel added nine points. DeVillier contributed seven points and Larriviere chiopped in six points.
Jameica James and Jamaica James both finished with 21 points to lead the Lady Indians as teammate Summer Ceaser added 11 points.
After a road trip to Oberlin Friday night, the Lady Jays return home Tuesday to face Grand Lake as district play continues.
Elton 65, St. Ed 50
Elton (4-6, 1-0) opened district play with a 65-50 victory over St. Edmund (0-9, 0-1).
Alex Dupre scored twice and Carter Andrus added a bucket to help keep the Blue Jays close early in the opening quarter before Elton pushed ahead, 12-6.
Henry Brown converted a three-point play for the Jays to close the gap to 12-9 before Kervondrick Scott and Kaleb Guillory scored in the lane to give Elton a 16-9 advantage.
St. Ed’s Gus Brown drilled a trey to begin the second period, but Maclo Hicks responed with two three pointers to push the Indians ahead, 22-12.
Christian Fontenot drove the lane and Gus Brown hit another trey as the Jays battled to close the gap to 24-17.
Andre Williams and Guillory scored late to give Elton a 28-17 lead at the break.
The Blue Jays regrouped in the locker room and rallied for a 20-12 thrid quarter run.
Andrus scored in the lane and Dupre dropped in five points, while Andre Williams and Ethan John drilled treys for the Indians.
Brown hit two free throws for the Jays, but Guillory responded with a three-point play to increase Elton’s lead to 37-26.
Dupre and Jamaco Mitchell exchanged treys as the offensive stars began to shine.
Dupre exploded for eight points to close the period as the Jays pulled closer, 40-37.
Elton began the fourth quarter with a 7-1 run before Dupre drilled a trey on an inbounds play to close the margin to 47-41.
The Indians answered with an 15-0 run to extend Elton’s lead to 61-41 with 2:00 left in the contest.
St. Edmund finally scored on free throws by Andrus, Henry Brown and Dupre and Gus Brown scored in the closing seconds as the BlueJays closed the final gap to 65-50.
Alex Dupre finished with 27 points to lead St. Edmund, while Gus Brown chipped in eight, Henry Brown added seven and Andrus finished with five points.
Guillory led Elton with 21 points, while Andre Williams contributed 15 points.
