Since 2009, the Bobcats are 7-1 over the Raiders, as Eunice has outscored Northwest 293 to 131 points.
But the Raiders grabbed a 14-7 win last season to earn the district title as Northwest rolled to a 12-2 quarterfinal finish.
The two will clash Thursday night at Bobcat Field as No. 25 Eunice (4-4, 3-2) is fighting to stay in the playoff hunt after three straight district wins over Port Barre, Pine Prairie and Mamou.
The two schools agreed to move the game up to avoid the predicted rainy weather Friday.
“This team has probably gone through more adversity in trials and tribulations than any team we have had,” Eunice head coach Paul Trosclair said. “We trying to improve every week.
“We have had good senior leadership,” the coach said. “I think we have improved enough that we can compete.”
Northwest (6-2, 4-1) opened the season with a 19-13 win over Opelousas Catholic before dropping a 52-34 shootout with Berwick.
The Raiders then went on a streak with wins over West St. Mary (54-0), Iota (34-19) and Crowley (25-22).
Northwest’s sole district loss was against Church Point (34-32) as the Raiders then grabbed wins over Port Barre (40-6) and Pine Prairie (35-0).
“They have a lot of size and speed on the defensive side of the ball,” Trosclair said of the Raiders. “On offense they are balanced so we have to stop the run and have coverage in the secondary so they can test a defense in several different ways.”
Trosclair said he was proud of the way his team performed in the 53-8 win over Mamou.
“I have never coached a team that grabbed seven interceptions in a game,” the coach said. “That has to be a school record.”
On offense, seven different players scored against the Demons with an interception return added to the total.
“It was good to see so many touch the ball,” Trosclair said. “We have had some freshmen step and really been helping us.”
Trosclair said ball control and time of possession will be important against Northwest.
“We need a running game and a few big pass plays,” the coach said. “We need to finish drives and score points.”
The coach said his team is playing with confidence after bouncing back from a four-game losing streak.
“Winning out will help us move up in the power rankings,” he said. “We are at No. 25 so we need to win to get a better playoff opponent.”
In other district games this week, Church Point (6-1, 5-0) entertains Mamou (1-7, 1-4); Crowley (4-4, 2-3) visits Port Barre (0-8, 0-5) and Iota (6-2, 3-2) travels to Pine Prairie (3-5, 2-3).
