Eunice High didn’t waste any time in taking control of their game against Iota in the Joe Nagata Memorial Jambore played at Bobcat Stadium.
The Bobcats received the opening kickoff and drove 75 yards in 11 plays to take a 7-0 lead over the Bulldogs.
Coach Paul Trosclair’s Bobcats ran eight times and completed one pass to advance down the field. Avery Lee carried four times for 26 yards and Trevin Ceaser added 19 yards on three carries as the Cats moved down the field, with Ceaser scoring the touchdown on a three-yard run.
Austin Phillips kicked the PAT to put the Bobcats on top by a 7-0 margin.
The only pass of the drive was a Jaydon Brasseaux pass to Jordan Ledet that covered 13 yards.
Josh Andrus’ Bulldogs responded quickly after the kickoff, with quarterback Trae Rambin commecting with running back Kaleb Guillory on a 14-yard pass. Rambin completed a 6-yard pass to Hunter Andrus for a first down in Eunice territory. Alex Frey ran for seven yards before Guillory added four yards. Guillory’s four-yard touchdown run capped the drive and Luis Doroteo kicked the PAT to tie the game at 7-7.
Following the kickoff, the Bulldogs forced a fumble and recovered it at the Eunice 39-yard line. But the Bobcat defense turned the momentum around on an interception by Tyler Darbonne to regain possession. With 1:55 left in the first half, Brasseaux teamed with Ledet on a 47-yard touchdown pass. Phillips kicked the PAT to give the Cats a 14-7 lead.
Iota stalled on offense following the kickoff and were forced to punt. The Bobcats received the punt, taking over at their own 29. Brasseaux teamed with Ledet on a 24-yard pass and Lee added four yards on a run. Brasseaux teamed with Keshawn Guillory for 25 yards before finding Ledet on a 10-yard touchdown pass that gave the Cats a 20-7 lead at the half.
The Bulldogs struggled to move the ball after receiving the second half kickoff and again were forced to punt. Brasseaux again teamed with Ledet for 16 yards, then found Josh Youngblood for 16 more. Those passes set up a three-yard touchdown run by Avery Lee to give the Cats a lead of 27-7 after a Phillips miss on the PAT.
Bobcat head coach Paul Trosclair felt his team had improved from an earlier scrimmage. “We played much better than we did against Kaplan.” Trosclair’s main worry was about an injury to senior Dameon Frank. “He’s a two-way player for us and hopefully will be backed soon.”
