Eunice teams finish second in district

IOTA – The Eunice track teams battled at the District 5-3A meet, but both the Bobcats and Lady Bobcats finished second in the tough competition.
The Lady Cats had won six straight district championships from 2012 to 2017.
The Iota Lady Bulldogs won the girls title with 148 points, followed by Eunice (118), Crowley (112), Northwest (62), Church Point (44), Pine Prairie (24), Port Barre (19) and Mamou (19).
The Northwest Raiders captured the boys title with 156 points, followed by Eunice High (110), Crowley (109), Church Point (72), Port Barre (54), Iota (39), Mamou (12) and Pine Prairie (4).
The top four qualifiers in each event advance to the Region 2-3A meet on Wednesday at Abbeville.
Eunice’s Katherine Rougeau won the girls javelin competition with a throw of 111-9, followed by Lady Cat teammate Stacie White (93-7) and Iota’s Kolby Regan (92-8).Church Point’s Ali Cooley was fourth (88-4).
Eunice’s Robbi Palmer won the girls high jump with a leap of 5-2, just ahead of Iota’s Madison Ardoin (5-0).
Eunice’s Amya Johnwell, Jesslyn Reed, Shania Toussaint, Leah Walker and Zakayla Citizen won the 800-meter relay with a time of 1:47.10.
Johnwell, Citizen, Toussaint, Walker and Reed also won the 400-meter relay with a time of 50.80.
Citizen, White, Palmer and Edwards was fourth in the 1,600-meter relays.
Iota’s Abigail Fontenot won the girls pole vault with a height of 7-0, just ahead of Lady Bulldog teammate Sadie Zaunbrecher (7-0) and Eunice’s McKenzie Smith (5-0).
Fontenot finished second in the 100-meter hurdles with a time of 15.83 while Church Point’s Olivia Bundy (16.50) finished third, while White of Eunice was fourth )17.54).
Fontenot finished third in the girls long jump at 15-4 ahead of Mamou’s Tavia Gallow (15-4).
Iota’s Chole Smith won the 800 meters (2:30.82), while teammate Rose Regan finished second (2:35.71).
Sierra Wimberly of Church Point was fourth (2:46.39).
Smith also won the 3,200 meters with a time of 15.11.04, ahead of teammate Ellen McDaniel (15.18.52) and Mamou’s Kaitee Bertrand (15:20.05).
Eunice’s Kimberly Boullard finished second in the girls shot put with a throw of 30-2, while Iota’s Lisa Fontenot finished third (29-7).
Church Point’s Madison Guillory won the girls discus with a toss of 115-1, while Iota’s Bethan1Chesterman (93-5) finished second.
Iota’s Regan won the girls 1,600 meters with a time of 5:59.51 to clip teammate Smith (6:02.98).
Lady Cat Leah Walker finished second in the 100 meters with a time of 12.98, while Johnwell finished fourth (13.29).
Walker also finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 26.91.
Mamou’s Tavia Gallow finished second in the triple jump at 35-4.
Church Point’s Olivia Bundy finished second in the girls 300-meter hurdles with a time of 49.31, while Iota’s Regan finished third (50.54).
Walker finished second in the 200 meters with a time of 26.91.
Iota’s Curtis, Stoma, Smith and Regan won the 1,600-meter relay with a 4:16.91 finish.
Iota’s Lindsey Jordan finished fourth in the triple jump (30-2), while Madeline Boone was fourth in thr 300-meter hurdles (53.37).
Eunice’s Jesslyn Reed finished fourth in the 400 meters (1:03.85), while Johnwell was fourth in the 200 meters (28.18).
In the boys competition, Eunice’s Javondre Edwards won the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 15.46.
Edwards also captured the 300-meter hurdles with a 42.12 finish.
Eunice’s John Mayo won the boys 1,600 meters with a time of 5:11.12, ahead of Iota’s Juan Rosules (5:14.01).
Seth Bourque from Iota won the boys pole vault with a leap 9-0, followed by Eunice’s Joshua Aguillard (8-6) and Gavin Higginbotham (8-6).
Iota’s Dylan Nelson won the 400 meters with a time of 52.36.
Eunice’s Trey Cooper finished second in the high jump at 5-8, followed by teammate Corneilous Lewis (5-8).
Church Point’s Kane Bergeron won the boys javelin with a toss of 164 just ahead of Eunice’s Avery Lee (162-4).
Church Point’s Breelyan Jones captured the 100 meters with time of 11.27 to clip teammate Javon Wheeler (11.49).
Jones also won the 200 meters with a time of 22.50.
Church Point’s Hornsby, Jones, Wheeler and Richard won the 400-meter relay with a time of 43.55.
Wheeler, Jones, Hornsby and Richard finished second in the boys 800-meter relay with a time of 1:31.15.
Bear teammates Castille, Hornsy, Richard and Stelly finished second in the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 3:49.30.
Travon Wheeler finished fourth in the 200 meters (23.25).
Eunice’s Bailyn Ashford finished third in the 3,200 meters with a time of 12:31.97.
Mamou’s Hayden Bergeron finished third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:18.14.
Eunice’s Loranzo Thomas finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 44-10, while Broddy Gaspard was fourth in the discus (117-6).
Jeoul Hill finished fourth in the triple jump with a leap of 41-0.

District 4-1A Meet
LAKE CHARLES – Oberlin scored 134 points to win the boys title at the District 4-1A meet held at Grand Lake, while Merryville captured the girls championship.
St. Edmund finished seventh in both divisions as the Jays scored 29 points and the Lady Jays recorded 35.5 points.
The Basile Bearcats finished fifth (65), while the Lady Cats were finished sixth (37).
The top four qualifiers in each event advance to the Region 2-1A meet on Tuesday at Louisiana-Lafayette.
St. Edmund’s Gus Brown won the 3,200 meters with a time of 12:12.20.
St. Edmund finished fourth in the 400-meter relays (47.50, the 800- meter relay (1:38.20).
Basile finished fifth with 65 points.
Bearcat Brett Ledoux won the high jump with a leap of 6-2, while teammate Keeman Ivory finished third (5-10).
Basile’s Issacc Ingram finished third in the pole vault (10-0).
Bearcat Jaylon Thomas finished third in the 200 meters with a time of 22.60, while Logan Guillory was third in the 800 meters with a time of 2:20.13.
Guillory also finished fourth in the 1,600 meters with a time of 5:29.30.
Ledoux finished fourth in the 110-meter hurdles with a time of 18.00.
Landon James finished fourth in the 300-meter hurdles.
Basile captured the 1,600-meter relay with as Ashford, Ivory, Reed, Thomas combine for a 3:37.20 finish.
In the girls competition, St. Edmund’s Mary Beth Lafleur finished second in the javelin with a toss of 99-2.
Lady Jay Katherine Sittig finished second in the high jump with a leap of 4-6.
Avery McGee was fourth in the 1,600 meters with a time of 6:54.90. She also finished fourth in the 3,200 meteres (16:19.00)
St. Edmund finished fourth in the 1,600-meter relay with a time of 6:00.39.
Basile’s Shelbie Bergeaux was third in the 100 meters (13.30) and fourth in the 200 meters (29.20).
Carly Basinet finished third in the 200 meters (28.30), while Henley Lejeune finished fourth in the triple jump (31-1).
Basile finshed third in the 400-meter relay (55.20) and fourth in the 800-meter relays (1:57.80).
