Iota cruises past Lady Cats, 16-4

Iota clinched third place in District 5-3A with a 16-4 win over the Eunice Lady Bobcats Tuesday.
The Lady Bulldogs (22-8, 11-3) jumped out to a 2-0 lead, begun when Makenzie Droddy singled and scored on a hit by Greta Fontenot.
Teri Johnson bunted and scored on a Lady Cat error.
Iota added two more runs in the second inning sparked when Taylor Dupre tripled and scored on a hit by Droddy.
Droddy later scored on a ground-out as the Lady Bulldogs moved ahead, 4-0.
Iota exploded for five runs in the top of the third, begun when Dixie Guidry bunted, McKenzy LeJeune walked and both scored on a triple by Dupre.
Droddy then doubled in Dupre.
Johnson singled to keep the rally going before Droddy scored on a Eunice error.
Johnson crossed home plate when on Fontenot reached another Lady Cat miscue to push Iota ahead, 9-0.
Eunice (10-21, 3-11) closed the gap to 9-1 in the bottom of the inning when McKenzie Guillory singled and scored on a hit by Amber Arvie.
The Lady Cats added a run in the fourth frame when Natalie Vidrine reached on a fielder’s choice and scored on a double by Morgan Domingue.
Iota added two runs in the top of the fifth, begun when Droddy singled and scored on a hit by Fontenot.
Johnson singled and scored on a Lady Cat error as Iota moved ahead, 11-2.
Eunice closed the gap to 11-3 in the bottom of the frame when Cassie Thomas doubled and scored when Olivia Thibdodeax reached on an error.
The Lady Bulldogs continued its offensive barrage in the top of the sixth inning as Amelie Armand singled, Dupre reached on an error and both scored on a hit to centerfield by Droddy.
Eunice closed the margin to 13-4 when Domingue reached on an error and later scored on a ground-out by Thomas.
Iota added three insurance runs in the top of the seventh inning, begun when Guidry tripled and scored when Ashley Miller reached on an EHS error.
Droddy capped off her 6-for-6, six RBI with a line drive home run over the left field fence to push Iota ahead, 16-4.
Ryley Crouchet earned the complete game win as she allowed one earned run on nine hits with eight strikeouts and two walks.
Arvie went 3-for-4 with a RBI, while Guillory finished 2-for-4 with a run scored for the Lady Cats.
Jailyn Pavich suffered the loss as she allowed eight earned runs on19 hits with six strikeouts and a walk.
Johnson went 5-for-6 with three runs scored, while Guidry (2-for-5, RBI, 2 RS), Fontenot (2-for-5, 2 RBI) and Dupre (2-for-3, 2 RBI, 3 RS) joined Droddy for multiple hits.
