Iota pulls past Loranger

IOTA – After losing the opener against Loranger, Iota responded with a pair of impressive wins to advance to the Class 3-A state quarterfinals.
Bulldog pitcher Tristan Miller threw a no hitter in as Iota defeated Loranger 10-0 in the series finale.
Miller struck out eight and walked three over six innings in the mercy-rule win.
Iota exploded for five runs in the bottom of the first inning, begun when Will Doughty singled and scored on a hit by Deven Mouton.
Miller reached on an error and courtesy runner Chaynery Johnson scored when Andrew Ashby singled as Iota moved ahead, 2-0.
Dakota Breaux then drove in Mouton, while Ashby scored on a sacrifice by M. Lege.
Hunter Andrus reached on an error that allowed Breaux to score as the Bulldogs forged ahead, 5-0.
Iota added three more runs in the bottom of the second, begun as Miller reached on an error and courtesy runner Johnson scored when Mouton reached on another Loranger miscue.
Hunter Wriborg doubled and scored as Ashby advanced on another Wolves’ miscue.
Mouton then crossed home plate to push the Bulldogs ahead, 8-0.
Iota increased its lead to 9-0 in the bottom of the fourth when Mouton singled and scored on a Lorganger error.
The Bulldogs completed the romp with a run in the sixth when Kameron Aucoin doubled and scored on a hit by Breaux.
Mouton went 2-for-4 with two RBI and three runs scored, while Breaux finished 2-for-4 with two RBI and a run scored.
Andrus went 2-for-3, while Ashby finished 2-for-3 with a RBI and a run scored.

Iota 4, Loranger 2
In the second game of the series, the Bulldogs trailed 2-1 before Iota scored three late runs in a 4-2 victory over Loranger.
The Bulldogs scored a run in the top of the third when Trae Rambin walked and crossed home plate on a sacrifice fly by Miller, but the Wolves answered with two runs in the bottom of the inning to retake a 2-1 lead.
Iota surged for two runs in the top of the sixth, begun when Wriborg singled and courtesy runner Johnson scored on a hit by Ashby.
Mouton singled and scored on a hit by Lege as the Bulldogs moved ahead, 3-2.
Iota added an insurance run in the top of the seventh when Wriborg reached on an error and Johnson scored on Mouton’s sacrifice fly.
Wriborg earned the complete-game win as he allowed one earned run four hits while striking out six.
B Faust took the loss for Loranger. He lasted six and a third innings, allowing seven hits and four runs with three strikeouts and two walks,
Iota finished with seven hits, led by Wriborg (2-for-4) and Ashby (2-for-4, RBI).

Loranger 4, Iota 1
In the series opener, the game went into extra innings before Loranger scored three runs in the top of the ninth to steal a 4-1 win.
The Wolves grabbed an early 1-0 lead, but the Bulldogs finally forced a tie in the bottom of the fifth when Lege bunted and Johnson scored on a hit by Breaux.
Brett Spell battled for 8.1 innings for Iota as he allowed four hits and four runs while striking out seven.
Deven Mouton and Tristan Miller entered the game as relief, throwing one-third of an inning and one-third of an inning respectively.
Doughty, Breaux, Miller, Mouton, and Lege each collected one hit for Iota.
J Matherne was credited with the victory for Loranger as he allowed five hits and one run over nine innings, striking out three and walking one.
Matherne also went 2-for-4 at the plate to lead Loranger in hits.
