Jamborees kick off season

Thursday night, the lights will turn on and the fans will fill stadiums all around the area ina a preview of the high school footbal season.
The threat of stormy weather has forced the change for the fifth-annual Joe Nagata Memorial jamboree.
Originally set for Friday, the games will held tonight at Eunice High.
The St. Edmund Blue Jays will face long-time rival Sacred Heart of Ville Platte at 6:30 p.m.
Eunice High will entertain the Iota Bulldogs in the finale.
This year, the committee chose to honor the late Tony Fuselier, founding chairman of the Nagata jamboree who died on April 14.
In Opelousas at Donald Gardner Stadium, the St. Landry Parish Public School Jamboree will be divided into three contests.
The Eunice High junior varsity will face North Central at 6 p.m.
Port Barre and Beau Chene will follow at 7:15 p.m.
Opelousas and Northwest will square off in the 8:45 p.m. finale.
The Opelousas Kiwanis Club jamboree will be held at Westminster Christian Academy.
Opelousas Catholic will face Hanson Memorial at 6;30 p.m.
University Academy of Alexandria and host Westminster will play in the finale.
The newly formed two-night Acadia – Vermilion Parish jamboree will held tonight at Rayne and Kaplan.
At 6 p.m. in Acadia Parish, Erath and Crowley will play, while Abbeville will take on Rayne in the finale.
In Vermilion Parish, the action starts at 6:30 p.m. as Church Point faces North Vermilion.
Lake Arthur will take on Kaplan in the fimal game of the jamboree.
